just replaced clutch, now noise in 5th gear

i just replaced my clutch and when i drove home yesterday, i got up to 5th gear and i heard a noise that sounded like gears grinding ONLY in 5th gear. I also heard what sounded like an exhaust leak, could these be a coincidence or did i do something wrong? any help would be appreciated.

Coincidence on the gear noise IMO. It is full of gear oil right?
Exhaust leak- did you push the exhaust out of the way and tie it back when you pulled the transmission? I know mine is a pain when I pull my transmission.

i took the bracket that is bolted to the transmission off, but i put it back on when i finished. i guess i may have shaken it loose from the manifold when trying to get the tranny out. ill check that this afternoon.

5th gear noise is typically input shaft bearings, from what i'm reading about my own similar trans noise. sounds like one of the two bearings suffers from poor lubrication, so make sure it's topped up by sticking your finger in the fill hole as the FSM describes. good luck.
