Realy weird engine lope when at a stop...

Checked the forum, but could not find ANYTHING even remotely like this issue. On our "new" 86 4runner, 22re/manual trans., when I apply the brakes to stop and hold the brakes on, the engine stumbles/lopes. Let off the brake and it idles smooth. With the brake applied, the engine stumbles, BUT I can turn the headlights on (w/ the brakes applied) and it smooths out...WTF??? Other than that, it runs pretty good...No mods that I know of, could have the valves checked, slight rattle, but alot less than my previous 22re...

your idle is set too high. stops with the lights on because of alternator draw probably lowers it just enough to be under the computers limit before it starts doing that
