When you rebuilt the engine did you buy a new oil pump or use the old one ?. I would pull the oil pump and check it out, if its the old pump it could be bad. I had the oil pump on my 86 4Runner grenade it self and i never would have known it happened if it wasn`t for the metal chunks causing the crank shaft seal to leak. When i removed the oil pump it was full of metal chunks, i had to replace the oil pump and the drive gear.

Did you remember to put oil in?/ If the oil is up to the full mark.

Leave the drain plug out??

Big puddle under truck?

The only thing it could be is your oil pump has died the final death.

Or maybe the pick up fell off just finger tighten the bolts.:jessica:

If one system needs to be bullit proof on an engine its lubrication( and it usually is ). That is not normal and you should find out whats going on before you start driving again or you may ruin your new engine. I would at least pull you pan and make sure your pick up isnt blocked or loose also I would cut open your old filter if you still have it( also your current one if oil has been through it).

When you had no oil pressure did you check the dip stick there may be a problem with the oil draining down into the pan.

In which case it will starve for oil in running all the oil up top and none in the pan.

As said something to figure out something is not as it should be!!!

It could be some crap in the oil pressure sending unit that blocked it from seeing pressure. Iw ould swap over to a new sender and aftermarket gauge. Or run a T out of the fitting and keep the factory gauge but still add an aftermarket gauge for comparson and double redundancy.
