Big Bear- Pontiac Sluice and Mottino Wash. 9-9,10-10

Had a great weekend out with a few good friends. Hit up Big Bear. The plan was to hit Pontiac sluice on Saturday and Mottino wash on sunday.

Got up to BB about noon saturday. Found the campsite which was on the very top of Tip Top mountain. We could see the high desert floor on one side and Big Bear lake on the other. Probably one of my most favorite camp sites ever. Got lucky and there wasn't a whole lot of wind and the temps weren't too cold at night.

SORRY THE PICS ARE SO LARGE. I think I uploaded them @ 1600x1200.
I might resize them later.. EDIT: hit Control and the minus sign on your keyboard and it'll zoom your browser out. Control plus to zoom back in

Saturday was fun on Sluice. Had a stocker 04ish 4Runner. Got through with no body damage and a lot of rock stacking. JD was a great sport.

On the top of Heartbreak Ridge there is a memorial for a fallen soldier who was also a member of So-Cal broncos. The SCB guys are great and do a great job at maintaining their adopted trails up in Big Bear.
There is also a Geo Cashe next to the memorial. There is a guest book that tells the story of the fallen marine and people who visit can sign it and whatnot.

Group shot, Left to right:
Troys 4Runner with his friend Oliver, JD and his family, Me and a friend, John and his friend Sean.

Troys friend Oliver cheesin. They explored the mine but I wasn't in the mood.

Thats about all of the pics for saturday.
We hit up camp, had a few beers, I cooked sloppy joes and baked potatoes and we shared some stories over a camp fire.

Sunday morning John took off. His truck isn't quite ready for Mottino wash.
Troy and I met up with Bill in his 3rd gen 4Runner and quickly headed out to what was sure to be a fun filled day of rock bashing.
If you took someone whos ran all of the Hammers trails and took him here, he'd think he was back at the Hammers.

Troy:

Bill:

How we roll 3 deep.

This spot is kind of for a full bodied rig like a 4Runner. If not careful, the rear drivers side quarter window will eat the rear knob on the wall to the left.

Kinda hard to tell the depth but..

Me in the same spot.. My head/ body is directly next to the knob I was talking about.

No biggie.

I can't count the number of times I've seen troy hung up like this...

Bill tried to climb this ledge and...

...

Took us about 1.5 hours to change that out and we were back on our way.

Me..

A couple more of me.. I can't figure out where they go chronologically so yea..

Other then the CV damage I don't believe we had any other damage. I killed a center cap on one of my wheels but they're being scrapped soon anyway.

I can't wait to try this trail on 35's.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Sweet pics, Scoob.

I think you were missing some key pieces of equipment to make it an "expedition" though.

That was very Scenic out there.

looking into running the mottino in the summer. being that you have done it, in your opinion what would be some minimal requirements to run this trail? we dont want to take some guys that wont make it, or even myself.

Great pics, and awesome rigs.

Minimum reqs?
Well this past weekend we got an extended cab taco (long wheel base, bad for these kind of trails) on 32's. But this taco had a high clearanced bed with bed hoops, sliders with extra cab hoops, and plenty of skids. Said red truck did not have a front locker. Had issues in a couple spots but got through fine.
Pics seen here.

I've gotten through on BALD 33's and lockers front and rear with my single cab. But then again, I wasn't afraid of anything.

Those would be my min. reqs for anything with similar body style/ wheelbase.
