Hi all first of all I did search and search so here is my bone head problem.
Yes I had a ID10T moment in my hast to get the heads back on my 1991 T4R with a 3VZE I did not put the crossover pipe back in, is there a way to get it back in without pulling the heads?

 

Yes it is Just not with the heat shield ( I did header wrap the crossover)
We will see how long that works.

 

you should just make a custom cross over under the truck. it will be worth it. the stock crossover is already the worst thing about the 3VZE.. and most likely the reason you have the heads off.

 

Money constraints prevent that rite now.

Yes there is !!!!!! I have a 94 sr5 truck so not sure how similiar to your 4runner, but just last week I made that same stupid mistake. If you have the lower intake on it will have to be removed, mine was off. Water bypass tube has to be off. Exhaust manifolds were off as the studs get in the way. edit: now that I think about it the passenger side was on, driver off. Down pipe removed. Also on my truck there is a metal heat shield bolted to the frame on the driver side I had to remove it, also removed the foil heat shield on the firewall, at that point I was able to snake it in eventually starting from behind the driver side head and feeding the crossover tube down until it hit the frame then I was able to wiggle the passenger side of the crossover pipe behind the passenger side head. Definitely a WHEW moment as I thought for sure I was going to have to pull one of the heads back off.

 

I have a question about the timing belt tensioner in the first picture the fan idler is not installed so you can see the small spring pulling on the timing belt adjuster.
In the second picture you can see the tensioner off the rite side of the an idler or the left side of the picture.





what's the deal with the two different types? is one better than the other?

The cross-over can be installed without removing much at all (certainly not the heads). You just need a "flex-head" ratchet (preferably one with a slight "ess" in the handle) so that you can get a more-acute-than 90 degree bend in it.

The second idler-tensioner is hydraulic, and was introduced in a later model year (mine is in a '94). And it is MUCH better. :^) Actually, I doubt there's much difference.

 

That's cool. So I wont worry about replacing it with the new one.
