Anyone got a 1st Gen 4Runner 22RE automatic with a header? If so, did you mod one for a manual or did you find one specifically for an auto? All the ones I've found seem to be for manual transmission only.

I don`t think you would have any problems using a header for a manual transmission on your truck with an automatic.

I called Northwest Offroad to order one and they told me theirs wouldn't fit an auto, same thing for Doug Thorley. Maybe it's just the tri-y design that won't. Not having one to try and fit, or access to a manual 4runner to look at the differences, can't see why it wouldn't either, just going by what they told me.

I answered for the wrong year, pretend I said nothing.

I got one for my 85 when it was an auto and it didnt fit. Its a pacesetter header and is supposed to fit 84-89 4runners with the automatic. I had to heat it up with the torch and bend it to fit

I still have it in the garage...can't decide to modify or just get rid of it.

My First 4Runner was an '85 A/T, I used an LC Engineering Header and it fit just fine. BTW I wouldn't put a Pacesetter on my lawnmower

Yeah, kinda funny how this has progressed for me. I was gambling on a tri-y design being superior and had my heart set on one. My initial call to Thorley said "it won't fit an auto" so I didn't buy theirs. Then, despite the numerous testimonies regarding terrible NWOR customer service, I called them to order their tri-y and they also said, no way, won't work. So I then called stan's headers and after 10 minutes on the phone with the girl while she would run and ask whoever my questions, I decided I didn't really want to buy from them either.

So this week, work slowed down long enough to give me a few minutes to get back on this project. After reading and re-reading all the threads I found during search, I decided to call the guys everyone seemed to have nothing but good comments about....LCE. I called and without hesitation he said, Yep, no problem. Asked him twice, he even went and checked with someone else and said, no problems, bolts right in. So I gave the man my card and it's on it's way.

Maybe no autos is a tri-y thing? I'll find out if LCE was right very soon and I'll post the results here.

I got nice aftermarket headers on my '87 22re auto. It was already done when i bought it, so i have no real basis for performance comparison, also not cost info, so this post is worthless, except for that . . .
FYI everyone, I'm selling it b/c i have two 1 Gen 4runners and we need a 4 door b/c we're expecting.
