Need a new motor - what do you recommend?

Hey everyone, I just got my first toyota but i have been into them since i was a kid. Sadly i blew my engine and im dead in the water.

Basically what I am asking is, where could a guy get a trust worthy engine? I was thinking of a crate motor swap. 22rec is what i want to get. Just looking for some suggestions on what i should do. I want to keep it a 4banger as well.

Thanks, Casey

Welcome to YT.

Try searching a bit as there is a LOT of information on this topic already.

Also please use relevant thread titles in the future as it makes it easier for folks to help and others to search later.

Hey man, I am in the same boat. I have been doing quite a bit of searching for the most reliable source for rebuilds. Do a search on Oregon Engine Rebuilders. This is where I am buying mine. Give them a call, I spoke with Jack today (think he is the one actually putting together the remanmed motors) and he was very helpful. Told me what it does and does not come with, warrenty, as well as what other items to replace while im at it.

Yeah I actually live in Vancouver, WA. Im just going to do a rebuild but I am still looking around for other ideas. Thanks for the info bro ill look into it. My toy broke on my after the 4th day I had it and only took it through a nice swamp rut a few times. But I only bought it for $880, the sad thing is it is all stock with a stupid 4'' body lift with 35's BFGS....

thanks, Casey

Talk to Ted at Engine builder he could build these motors with his eyes closed.

I have always had great luck if you build the motor your self headbolts to 65 footpounds

I know that if I could afford it I would be buying one from lce longblock with the supercharger!!! It all depends on what you want to spend and if you can or want to do it yourself!! But I have to say your best source is to search around!!! I have been emailing back and forth with Ted from engnbldr for weeks now he is a great source of info and quite prompt at answering any questions!!

Thanks again guys, like i said before i am still in search mode and my financial situation isnt the best right now. And i have a good feeling my toy is going to be sitting for sometime. So im kinda on a budget and i just really need to get my truck running and driveable. It knocks pretty bad and there was metal shavings in my oil, we think i spun a rod bearing.

mean while i have my buddy with a jeep giving me all kinds bs on the side. But my toyota still goes where his get stuck and plus all the pull outs.

thanks, Casey
