1st gen 4runner passenger seat rail fix

Not a lot to do yestarday so I decided to fix the cables on the passenger seat. Not my idea, I got the idea from someone on here. but here is what I did.

Made a tab for the cable on the end on right side rail.

Then bent a piece of 3/8" solid bar stock for a handle and welded it on to the left side.

Used 1/16" stainless aircraft cable for the new cable. Used a electrical crimper to crimp the cable.

Works like a champ, and now the kids can climb in the back real easy.

One thing I forgot to post, and I need to go take a picture of it or your probably not going to understand. But here goes a try at an explanation. It is raining hard right now so I'll have to get pics tomorrow.

If you are having a problem with the seat going back to the upright position after leaning forward. Take the right side plastic off, on the bottom of the rail you will see a 1/8" silver metal bar. Take that off. There is a large sping on the handle. Move the bottom of that spring to the lever the solid bar was on. That will keep that lever out of the way and allow the seat to return to the upright position.

Fix cost $8.00

your pis only really show the lower cable , and not the cable that runs up on the seat tilt area .. did you do anything with that ?

No That is why you need to remove that rod, and move the spring I was talking about. Ya, it is a pain if your in the back and want to move the seat forward. At least it works now, and the cost was cheap enough. My dealer says the cables are unavailable. I did leave everything so that it could be taken back to stock if I come up with a good cable.

"edit" I suppose you could rig a small pully system that would do the same thing the stock cables did. the Hardware store had everything that would be needed. I did not think of that. I was looking for a simple fix that would give functionality back to the seat.

ahh ok ..
I have the SR5 buckets going into my Trekker .. so I was very sad when I found out the OE cables werent avaliable any more .. and for about a year I was searching for alternatives .. but it seem now , Toyota has reintroduced the cables and they are now avaliable again .. and althought the price has increased by about 10 bucks .. I bought one , but eventually I will need to do a mod ...

Well, I'll have to check the dealer again. But was a fun way to waist the morning.
