My 86 22RE truck doesnt like accelerating. This only happens once the truck is brought up to operating temperature, if I am a little enthusiastic with thego pedal, it starts hesitating, then bogs down from 2500RPM to about 1000 then backfires. If i drive without giving it too much gas and shift by 2500 RPM it does not cause a problem. Has new plugs/wires/cap/rotor

Whats your timing at?...check to make sure your dizzy is advancing properly.

 

Did it do this before you changed the plugs & distributor? As Eric mentioned, sounds like a timing problem...

 

No it did not do this before I changed the plugs, however It did not start doing it immediately after either

 

Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like? What plugs and leads are they?

 

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak or problem with the intake duct.

 

Timing and vacuum both are great places to start.How's your idle alot of times the computer will raise the idle to keep the engine running if there's a vacuum leak.

 

22re's ECU's don't have the capability to adjust idle speeds.

 

I would check plugs and timing first. My 87' 4runner 22re has an issue, I started it last week ran for a minute then quit. Not getting fuel, checked relay (good) so replace fuel pump. still no power to it??????? What would cause this? When I started it last week it was being jumped!

Sorry I forgot.No IAC on the 22RE you have to manually adj the screw on the intake.Thanks abecedarian.
