So I went out wheeling with a friend today, all day. Got to the top of a hill about three hours into the day, checked out some piles of parts, redneck style. Well, i get back in the truck, start it up, and no tach., no oil pressure, no volt reading, yet everything else is functional- stereo works fine, headlights work fine, e-flashers work fine, brake lights are fine, gauge lights are fine, back up lights are fine, and runs same as usual. I checked the 9 fuses in the fuse panel, all were good. Also checked the fuses under the hood. Had the cluster pulled while out there, all conections are clean and plugged in. I cannot for the life of me figure this out. I did try search, all I found was cluster swaps and light bulb changing. Anyone have an Idea? Is there a fuse I might have overlooked?

edit--- Or a relay?

 

Nobody has any ideas? This sucks cause the cops here are the worst. Can't drive it until it has turn signals, but I know the two are related.

Just so you are not being ignored...I'm not sure. Maybe you pinched a wire in the steering column? Seems like one of the relays are not getting power or is stuck. Pull the relays out and test them maybe give them a little tap. Not a BFH smack but a lil tap with the plastic handle of a screw dirver.

 

k. run out and try it now, ill let you know. cant believe i didnt think of that.

 

nothing. There isnt even a relay or fuse labeled for the gauges. The fuse for the turn signals is still good also.

 

Hmmmm interesting.

Go over some of the grounds. When you turn the key "on" All those things are not working are on the same part of the key (the on position). The things that are working are either always on or on the ACC part of the key. Maybe the ignition switch is on it's way out.

There has to be a fuse there somewhere for this group of gauges and flashers. Maybe a ground or inline fuse???

 

cant find anything. The switch is providing power, but, that is a viable option, i will see about getting my hands on one.

 

Hopefully someone else here can give some insight as well.

I went through the fuses again, just to humor myself. Did anyone else here know that if your 15 amp engine fuse blows, the gauges and turn signals will go out. But, whats wierd is the fact that the truck still ran. Im thinking someone re-wired the truck, and connected things a little bit wrong. But, yeah, now that i feel like a total idiot, time to install some new wires.

Glad to find this post I just got back from a wheeling trip in my 85 runner, and same exact thing has happened no blinkers or instrument gauges; all fuses check out fine. I will go check the above things. Thanks yotatech

 

Ya, check that 15 amp engine fuse in driver kick panel.

 

hah nice call just went out and double checked all my fuses after writing that post. Wasnt really in the best state of mind when that happened and came back to edit it and say it was the 15 amp engine fuse.
