something in gas tank...

since i bought my truck i noticed a clicking comming frm under the truck. there was so many things i had to adress that this kinda just took a back seat.

so when i shake the truck the clicking starts up and continues even after the truck isnt moving at all. and this is really a clicking sound like 2 metalic clips rubbing one another...

so i got under there and shook it again to notice that its coming frm the gas tank which actually explains why the clicking continues about 5 seconds after the initial shake.

so my question is how dangerous is it for there to b something in the gas tank? and if its relitavely easy to remove the tank and take a look?

im a noob but if its easy id be willing to take the tank out and remove watever is in there myself.

sry if this is old but i looked for about 20 mins now and couldnt find anything about this issue. thanx for the input

its all good. Two ways you can drop the tank.

1- Actually drop it, if you just filled up, this way would suck by yourself
2- Loosen one side of the bed, then remove the bed bolts completely from the tank side, lift the bed, support the bed, and have fun.

Make sure you have a new tank seal when you remove the sending unit assembly. Chances are the old one is going to be junk.

Yeah you could drop it.
If its full choose seans option 2.
Or drain it, That might get a little dirty.

Chances are if threre is something in there its not going to be picked up..

Does your gas gauge work..?

Im guessing its the float, or the pickup filter..

Scubs, you mean the strainer. The strainer is too soft to make a noise if it came of, i would think. But the float, i didnt even think of that.

if i had a fax machine, i would fax ya a parts print list with a price, picture and everything. I WIN!!! LOL, just messing Scubs, Strainer is what all of our shops and mechanics, parts people, and everyone els call them, its what they are listed as too. I would look at someone like, you want a fuel filter or a pump strainer.

Let me see if i can help. I think i know what it is (maybe) when i got my 86 4Runner the fuel gauge didn`t work, so i pulled out the sending unit and was looking inside the tank, and inside the tank is a pan thats spot welded to the bottom of the tank and the sending unit sits in this pan, well the pan had broken loose and was banging around inside the tank, and there is no way that you can remove it because its put into the tank before the two halfs are welded together, so not only did i have to replace the sending unit, i had to replace the gas tank as well. I did get lucky though because my cousins neighbor was parting out a wrecked 87 4Runner and he gave me the sending unit and gas tank for free. Man did i get lucky on that one.
