85 4runner front axle rubuild help

O.k. Just got done with the rear and it went smooth. Thanks for all advice I got from everyone. Now I want to tackle the front axle, the previous owner put a seal rebuild kit on the driver side and I have another one for the passenger side. Also it is leeking arould the 3rd member seal. So here is my questions(1) is there any pics or write up on a solid front axle that would show the tear down and rebuild process and (2) will I have to pull the driver side out to replace the 3rd member gasket like I did in the rear. This is the last thing I need to get done to get her on the road so any help would be appericiated. Thanks John.

O.K. there is a little more than the rear axle. Is this somehing that I can do or will I need to take it to a shop? Also it looked like there was some special tools I will need. I have the axle on stands and the tires off. Thanks John.

O.K. I take it all back (for now)

Thanks for the links, I think I got this thing whipped. Iam going to start one afternoon this week. Its just the shims part that has me worried. But If I count the old ones then just replace it with new I should be fine. Thanks everyone, John.

Yeah, you'll be good to go. I muddled through mine without really knowing what I was doing. You don't really need anything special other than the 54mm socket, which you ought to have anyways if you own a Toy.

I bought one of these and it's worth it's weight in gold in terms of time & frustration savings.

And this looks handy, but I've managed to live without one so far.

Otherwise general tools and a good torque wrench.

you dont have to "replace" the shims .. .. just "mark" them and keep them in order ...

heres a brief thread on my axle build .

Yep, no need to replace the shims. Just reuse them but in the same place that you removed them.

O.K. just got it all undone and when I was cleaning the 3rd member it was leaking around the yoke. So is the seal around the yoke shot or was the weith of the diff causing it?
