22re wont start.New starter
Im new to yotatech
the names David
alright so heres my problem
I bought a 1988 Toyota Pickup EFI (Fuel Injection)
lifted with 35 inch boggers and powered with a 22re
so it wouldnt turn over today
,it just clicked when i turned the key
so i went to Advance Auto Parts and got them to check my starter and they said it was and wasnt pulling any power
so i bought a new starter put it on the truck, put my yellow top battery in. and turned the key and all the motor does is turn is doesnt fire or start it just turns. but its wierd because it does just spin ,it spins and slows down and speeds up and slows down
like something is binding. any suggestions
and it does have a full tank of gas in it

Check to see if you have any codes, my cousin just went through this same problem with his truck not starting, and when he pulled the codes he got a code 11 wich is for the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Did you check all your battery connections? Are you sure you're getting spark at the coil/plugs?
Something is binding? In other words, it cranks slowly? Are you getting any flashing CEL codes?

Coil/igniter.... Check the distributer pickups? HAd same issue was the coil/igniter but did the pickups as well. pickups are cheap other 2 are pricey, luckaly LOTS of toys in the cane fields around here and not a part that goes out often. GL

Hey I'm having a similar problem. I'm not sure what's the issue.
Mines an 87 22rte. I've got good spark, compression, fuel pressure, and timing. My problem is, my injectors arent firing. What connectors or steps should I take to troubleshoot this? To double check my theory I sprayed starting fluid into a vacuum port and the engine caught and ran until all the fluid was consumed. Then it died. I smell absolutely NO fuel in the cyl/intake.

Check the battery cables. I recently bought a 4runner that had a similar issue. Turns out the negative cable on the battery wasn't grounded to the engine block very well.

For some reason, Toyota has the injectors wired into two pairs of two injectors, and on top of the intake runners is a splice where both banks are spliced together to make all 4 fire at the same time. That is a known point of failure due to them using a crimp-type splice. So you may want to check that out.
