I got your PM, but when I replied it said your inbox was full.

I started on the 16th and finished just the other day. I still need shocks and driveshaft. Drives good though.

No, not yet. I will though. I had it checked out by someone who has done lots of swaps and he said it looked fine.

Looks good Adam.
The truck has come a long way from the previous poser shots on the trail.

I don't like to walk far from the truck to the house either... but I try to stay off the stairs.

Sit tight, all... I am working a plan to perform an SAS for under $600 !

Basically as of now, this is where I sit:

1/2 of parts truck = $150. Includes various springs, 1 longer brakeline, SA CV driveshaft (use to build own long-travel square shaft) some steering components, new gears, skidplate, spare T-Case (for later dual-case setup), shocks and shock towers.
Shop Supplies = $150. (1 brakeline, DOM square tube, plate steel, lubes/oils/solvents, welding rods, Argon, BEER ).

What I need... Find a way for crosssover steering for less than $300. Currently exploring all options. Will be normal crossover (not hy-steer), but hybrid with IFS and SA steering components/rods/draglink, and probably custom steering arms.

This will take place towards the end of the year, maybe even later (feb time frame). Current project... Built performance engine for under $800. Have .040 overbore, new pistons, head machined, OS valves, engnbldr cam, port-polish intake/head, flow-matched injectors, metal guide timing set, high volume oil pump, complete rebuild. If all goes well, I will be dropping this in over Labor Day weekend. Just need the rest of the supplies to come in (Clutch from JTOutfitters, OS Valves, Cam all ordered and on the way). Will keep you all informed.

See... Things can be done on the cheeep. Just have to shop for good deals and think outside the box!

That works if you already have wheels and tires and lockers and gears.

My wheels and tires were $640 installed for 33x12.50R15 Mud Kings on 15x8 Black steel wheels. That included mounting, lifetime balancing and rotations, and unlimited lifetime roadhazard.

Gears come from selecting the right parts truck. Same for lockers.

This places me at $1240, when tires and rims are included.

Not trying to bash you... It looks great! Just announcing the master plan that is soon to be unveiled.

so then if i wanted to do a sas on my runner, what would be the cheapest way to go, i can get an axle from a junkyard for around 350-400 mabey less if i travel a bit to pick it up, but then what all do i need?
my plan was to get the axle, order a lift kit from a 79-85 pickup, and fab my own spring mounts for the front....but what will i need to do for steering, can i use my steering box and stuff or what?

if anyone can list out the major stuff i will need (not the stuff like u bolt flip kits etc.) i would be a happy guy let me tell ya what!

thanks

A complete Toy front axle should be at most $250, but you should be able to find one for $150-200. Add ~$100 for a rebuild kit from man-a-fre or AllPro.

Springs and spring mounts, $50 for pick-n-pull springs to build your own pack to $350-500 for custom built packs, fab the mounts.

Longer shocks and extended mounts, $100+ and fab the mounts yourself.

Crossover-style steering kit, $439.

Brake lines, $100 for braided or $30-40 for rubber.

Long-travel driveshaft, $250

man that's cheap- down here, a complete axle is 3 to 4 bills, IF you can find one. Currently, just the inners and birfs are worth 2 bucks.

i have to say id be hard streched to find a axle that cheap around here! i may go up or down the valley and look when i do it....so the main things that you have to cover is, high steer/crossover steering, springs, axle, fab mounts for springs and shocks,

but what about rotors and brakes and stuff? can i just use the stock brakes or what?

and is there any way i could do a "stock"sas, where i wouldnt put the crossover steering or the lockers or anything aftermarket on it till later, that way i could still 4x4 while i save money for the aftermarket stuff and lift and stuff like that!
thanks

If you want cheap use the brakes that come with the axle. If you want to upgrade you'll need fj-40 rotors and IFS calipers, and you already have the calipers. Most axles I've seen lately for under $250 have been in Oregon.
