Calipers are fairly cheap and can be found in junk yards easily. You are probably going to regear anyways, so you dont care about that. Rotors are good to have

Look around on the jeep forums for some rebuilt D44's. You may land a diamond in the rough. Im sure there are many people that start to SAS and run out of funds or the wifey kills the project.

I got mine for $150 w/ calipers, BUT its not rebuilt.

yeah i wouldnt mind using the d-44 but i would rather stick with toy stuff, on the gearing thing, i dont plan on regearing till at least a year after the truck is built, i dont think that i will need to yet, considering im gonna run 32's for the first year! when i step up to 33's (yeah i know only 1 inch difference,) i will regear EXTREMELY low, im talking like5.13's or something, i also plan on crawler box when i do that regearing,

i just want to make sure the stock brake booster and stock steering box is going to work with the sas or do i need new ones.

thanks

You keep your stock steering box. You will need a new steering system, either crossover or high steer.

I could have done it all in a weekend. But I stretched it out over a whole week.

Best thing to do is test fit EVERYTHING. Nuts, bolts, ect ect. I am using Rancho part number RS44044 springs, designed for a Jeep Wagoneer.

I already bought my axle for $190, but I have to wait a while to do my SAS. Im doing it all at once, so I dont have to break into the axle again il it breaks....5.29 Gears, High pinion front diff, AOR springs, ARB locker, hysteer crossovere steering, etc. I want my truck to be down for only ~2 weeks, rather than taking it down over and over. Major PITA!

I think $250 is kinda cheap too. I paid $950 for a complete SAS ready front end, including gears, lockers, rotors, calipers, spacers, x-over steering etc. I still rebuilt it and then had to add the springs, mounts, shocks and towers.

My price is listed elsewhere. You don't want to know, it's scary but man is it an awesome setup!

I'm talking stock, in the raw, never rebuilt, coated in almost 20 years of grease and dirt axle.

That is because everyone knows you can't really wheel without a solid axle.....:pat:

Shane I love the new Avatar. What did JRuz say? I can only imagine. Back on the topic: I want the SAS BUT not for wheeling purposes. I want it to get more lift out of my Runnuh. Then I want to go leaf front and rear so that the "skies the limit" for a lift. I think that is what I need for a huge lift.

yeah blue i actually saw a sas'd 93 runner that was almost the color of our's, it was huge, probably 13 + inches, i dont think the thing saw a day of offroad in its life, and if it did, it was just some dirt roads or something, cause it was CLEAN!!! if i see it again ill snap some pics.

I know my Runner is capable enough to play offroad but not do the aggressive stuff and thats fine with me. I want to massive lift look. I could only wish to make my Runner as big as I think his name is (4 the hardway). That is a 4Runner god & I look up to him and all he has done. So far my mods have been looks and engine performance only. I still have a choice in going with the lifted sky high non offroading rig or keep it where its at and upgrade my diffs. Who knows what I will do.

It's amazing the prices quoted here. This is what a good 79 F250 setup with hy-steer components costs: Of course, this is for a slightly larger vehicle and you can go cheaper, but if you do, you'll probably eventually have some breakage and it'll wind up costing you more than if you did it right the first time.

Dana 44 Housing $150.00 to $250.00

4.56 Rev. cut Gears $150.00

Install Kit $71.00

ARB $625.00

CTM U-Joints $180.00 each x 2 =$360.00

(4) Spicer ball Joints $84.00

6 Lug outters $50.00

(2) 44 knuckles Milled/Tapped $200.00

(1) Set of 44 Arms $125.00

(2) 1 in. arm spacers $50.00

(2) Long stud kits $70.00

(1) Tie Rod supplied with TRE's $110.00

(2) Rotors $48.00

(2) Calipers $27.00

Pads $17.00

Pins $12.00

SS Brakelines (est. $50.00 each X 2 $100.00)

All Bearings/Seals $55.00

Warn Hubs $85.00

ALL Warn Alloy Shafts $570.00

Labor for finishing axle Prep/Assembly $400.00

Total = $3,359.00 to $3,459.00

I can get you this exact same setup for $3,448.50 plus shipping.
