w56 vs g52

Which do I go with? I've heard you can put a w56 behind a sbc 350...so it much be pretty strong. Don't care about the shifter locations as I'll have to modify the floor anyway. Which one do I choose? Is one better than the other?

Thanks guys. I searched (I know...rare!) for a tranny comparison thread but came up with a page and a half of nothing.

W56 can handle a little over 200hp as oppose to the G rated at about 140hp tops. I was talking about this last week with another 84 runner owner that swapped in a W56. I read the same elsewhere through a tranny site awhile back.

Definitely sounds like the w56 is the better tranny! Thanks

Spend the $50 for sure. Internals a bit more stout, from the factory. I would look to make sure it has the top shift t-case though (85-88) as opposed to the forward shift. Be easier to run duals later if you choose.

Thank you...

I think if you went that route, all you would need would be a bell housing, and an input + output shaft..If you wanted to use your original transfer case..
But thats something someone else will have to figure out..Cause Idk the specifics...
