In preparation for my lift kit install next week, I've been PB blastering every nut and bolt in sight, and I noticed this today. In the driver's side front wheelwell, right behind the top shock mount, there is a plastic cup-like thing with a wire going into it and a connector inside. Does anybody know what this connector is for, and why it's just chilling there on the a-arm? Trucks a 92 4by with a junkyard 88 3vze in it.

 

I could be way off but it looks similar to the oil pressure sending unit.

 

Oooh, that could be it. I have an analog pressure gauge because the one in the cluster doesn't work...I always assumed it was just the gauge that was broken...

but if the oil pressure sending unit was unplugged, wouldn't the fuel pump not run?

 

That looks suspiciously like the oil pressure sending unit connector. On the 22re that would be visible from the passenger wheel well. Don't know about the 3vze.

 

Nope, they're unrelated. The oil pressure is not used by the computer at all for anything. It's just there for you to see.

 

Could it be that the motor that got swapped in came from a truck without a gauge and only had a hookup for an idiot light?

 

I agree with the comments about it being the oil pressure sending unit connector. On my 3VZE this is under the engine towards the driver side wheel well. If I recall, the inside of the rubber boot has a clip that slides over a terminal on the sending unit. I remember having to rout this connector back down to the sending unit when I did the head gasket this Spring.

 

Thats a posibility....

 

That's the SR5 oil pressure sender boot for the cluster with a tach.

 

I swapped out my standard instrument panel that has idiot lights and no tach for the SR5 panel with tach and gauges. Here is a picture of the new oil pressure sender. So, I've been trying to figure out what kind of connector goes on that strange tip? Based on the photos above, I need the boot with the connector? Thanks

 

a female blade-type connector should fit it fine
