87 4Rnr - rear window won't roll up? where to start?

I've even got the FSManual but can't find a section that defines which fuses go to what or where the relay is located?

I can't roll up the window with the console switch or with the key in the gate...

This is the pic you need to find. I think it's in the body electrical section.

First thing to check is the top off bolt switch, it's the first bolt hole behind the drivers side rear wheel. Then check the wiper arm position, the lock on the rear door. The relay is behind the driver seat, under the window.

Yep, start with the common problem areas:

Then onto the less common:

Just to make sure, did you reconnect the wiring harness once you put the top back on. I'm not implying you're an idiot, btw.

The rear window will work as long as the "top cover bolt" is in place and the rear lock is down. With my soft top, the rear window works and the wiring harness for the wiper motor is not hooked up.

I had no idea. Man, there are way too many variables for these windows. I got lazy and hard wired mine.

Strange...Ive had nothing but problems with the hard wired switches in the cab of the 84-88 4runners, especially the up function. I just ground my test probe to a body ground and touch the red wire with the test probe(after unhooking the switch in the center console, there are 5 wires at the plug.) and the rear window rolls up. Try that to find if its your switch or something else. Chances are its either a regulator or the switch. Check for power at the back when trying to roll up the window to tell you whats going on if you cant get it to roll up after disconnecting the switch. Also, if the switch inside is messed up, it may not let the key roll the window up on the outside.
