rear bumper ideas

the only rear bumpers i can find are either a piece of 5" pipe or those tiny tube rocker guard ones.... anyone have something different? i have a guy that can fab just about anything, but the best i can come up with is a 2x4 with the bottom corners angled off. the only problem is the height i want it doesn't give me a place to mount it, it would have to hang down quite a bit... something i don't want with as bad as my departure angle already is with a long bed.

so who has a custom rear bumper, and how did you mount it?

so my Marlin rear bumper probably falls under the tiny tube kind but thought I would post it up anyway, at least the mounting brackets might give you an idea

I did end up trimming the rear quarter panels to mount it, departure angle did improve:

OC, that one is a lot beefier than the ones i've seen... it would definately provide decent protection. i just want something simple though, as this isn't my hardcore wheeler. i just bought a tube bumper for my FSJ and it has wrap around rocker protection... probably should have done that before i smashed the crap out of the quarters though!

that picture of the bracket helps a lot. i don't suppose you have the bumper off and could make a template of the mount?

It is not off the truck but I will see if i can make a template with it on the truck. It might have to come off soon anyway. I am doing the new spring mounts and have to cut off the hold bumper brackets someone had welded on:

For them money I feel the Marlin bumper is a great product. Had it within 3 days of the order. I just wish they could have given me an answer on the front bumper...
oh well

does the rear of your trekker have the same amount of 'hang' that a regular bed does? ....the amount of metal under the tailgate.

yeah, that bumper looks stout. but i just want something simple and clean for this rig. if it was my hardcore wheeler i'd be all over that one. then again, if it was my hardcore wheeler i'd have bobbed the long bed by now.

best bet is probly fab one up or find one and make your own mounts.
