drain plug seepage

Okay, heres the story- back when i was not using it my cousin drove my truck. He got the oil changed (which is good), but he did it at jiffylube (bad). I wasn't too mad until he told me they put the drain plug on with an impact wrench.

So I dreaded the day I'd have to change it. As I expected, it took a 18" breaker bar to get the plug out. Rest of the change went OK. When I tightened the plug down I did like 3/4 turn past snug, I'm confident its in good. Now I get a couple drips every night; and I don't feel comfortable tightening any more.

So, should I get a new plug next oil change?

How do the threads look? on the plug? on the pan?

Are you using a plug gasket?

Replace the plug and rubber O-Ring. Also check the threads on the oil pan.

It didn't look like any threads were damaged. Can I get a new plug from the dealer?

Go to Jiffy Lube. Tell them how incompetent they are. Then make them fix it!

dang..well there has to be another way! Go up and talk to the manager or call the district manager....park the truck in front of the store with a big sign...that usually works if nothing else does.

Hell, I'm getting angry over here for ya

^ thanks but its water under the bridge. I picked up a new plug at the toyota dealer, talked to the mechanic, he said after a lot of changes (340,000 miles worth maybe), he said the plug gasket just wears out. He mentioned how on his cars every 5 changes he replaces the plug. Plug was only like $3.47, so we'll see the next time 3000 miles rolls around.
