check engine light after new filter??

After installing a new Amsoil air filter into my rig last night I noticed my check engine light came on today. I then reset the computer and it later came on again. What could cause this? I would like to install the deck plate tomorrow, but I would like to get the light issue straight first. Thanks for any help - Eric.

Are you in any state besides California? If so, you can go to AutoZone and have the code read for free.

Did you reset the computer by pulling the fuse?

Does the sudden change (increase) in airflow cause this to happen? Or is my situation unique? This stuff always seems to happen to me

maybe during the install you accadentally pulled a cord, MAF sensor or something

just a guess, but better than nothing

I didn't get a CE light when I put an Amsoil filter in, but I did get it when I did the deckplate mod. It went away after pulling the EFI fuse.

Its possible that the airflow is what is tripping your light, but I'm not sure. All I can really say is try clearing it again, I don't know what else to suggest other than that and hooking up a code reader.

Anyone else?

Oh and welcome to the forums!

Did you blot out the excess oil from the filter before you installed it?

Right, good call Gadget, forgot about that one.

The oil could have contaminated the MAF.

If something was "unplugged" it would trip the check engine light immediately.

The fact that he said it came on the next day causes me to believe he over oiled the filter and contaminated the MAF. There is alot of infomation about cleaning this sucker on here, do a search.

There's excess oil on the Amsoil when it comes?
oops

I had a check engine light a little while ago. I pulled out my ISR mod and the EFI. I plugged the EFI with the stock intake silencer box in and it was okay. Took a look at my ISR mod stuff - resealed with sensor safe silicon and everything's been good since.

Knock on wood!
