I'm trying to test my speed sensor on my rear diff, according to the chiltons, and I need to disconnect this plug. It's in a really cramped place and I can barely see it. I tried for an hour trying to pull it apart but it won't budge. Do I need a special tool for this or what? Do I need to push on a certain latch that I can't see? If I can't take it apart I'm just going to take it into the dealer.

 

Looks like in pic #2, the ridged area on the right is the release. It looks like it's caked with dirt. You need to blast it with something to get the dirt out of it.

 

That's what I thought too and I pressed it with some pliers and it didn't budge. I'll try to clean it. BTW, if anybody is wondering that dark piece of plastic is the plastic bracket that held it to the frame. I had to cut it just to see the plug.

 

That looks alot like the situation I had with my carb.'s choke connector. The thing that might be holding it together, besides the dirt, might be corrosion on the plugs within the connector (that was the case with mine). I had to push a flathead screw driver under the female connector's lip and pry a little around the bead.

What are those holes on the right connector in pics 1 and 3? Maybe they're there to put a tool in to push it apart???

 

I saw those holes too and I thought maybe a special tool goes in there. They seem awfully small though.

 

Which connector is that? Turn signal light?

If you want, I'll be more than glad to look at my connectors and see how to disconnect them. And since I have no dirt or rust here in AZ, it should be pretty simple task.

An allen wrench could get in there I am sure. But I wouldn't do it just yet, don't want to fry any electronics. I still think its just corroded and thats making it difficult to disconnect, basically brute force will get them apart.

 

What's an allen wrench going to do? I just used a set of needle nose pliers to disconnect my O2 sensor when I replaced it. Give it go using some needle nose to press the button down and another set of pliers to pull the other end. It will come off you just gotta grow some huevos.

Along those lines, I probably have the skinniest arms in YT. My wife's wrist is about the same size as mine. The problem is that it's soo cramped up there it hard to get my hands in there let alone any tools. I can't get any leverage to pull them apart. I'll try cleaning it tonight and trying again.

 

Got it! I picked out all the dirt from the plug with a paper clip and pushed on the ridged area while wiggling the plugs apart.

 

Way to go Ahhhnold!

 

A really small one would be like the paper clip he used.

Pee on it, it works for radiators.
