Now this thing cost me a fortune and though buying everything from the dealer is.. Now I have to Pay To get this thing programed to my 4Runner..... ARRRGGGG

I have yet to try this yet,(haven't bought the blank transponder key on ebay yet) but it worked for another member with a similar ebay key. Hope it works for you and takes some more money out of the stealerships greedy mitts

4Runner Key Programming
Add Duplicate Key

1.Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2.Insert master key into ignition
3.Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4.Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5.Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6.Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7.After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8.Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

You were talking about the black topped KEY right?
Not, the keyless entry remote control?

My suggestion (I would do this if I ever need another key) is to get the best deal on the key and try the above procedure yourself.

As soon as I finished the purchase transaction (Longo Toyota in CA), my wife and I went to their parts dept to buy a couple of spare keys. The parts mgr took longer making the keys than the entire test drive and purchase. Egads! He got 1 key done (I think by accident), then couldn't get the 2nd one done. He ended up getting another guy to help him with it. They finally got it done - by accident, also. It probably would have been entertaining, but we were anxious to go out and cruise the new toy!

Stick the key in the ignition, get out, run around the car 3 times to the left, get back in, ...

You're probably just as qualified, if not more.

Good luck!

I just did my own key programming, and I've also done it for the remote control transmitter. I'm not sure if the 2003 has the same system as us. My truck is a Limited so I'm not sure what security system I have.
Does anyone know of a way to make the remote transmitter roll the window UP, in addition to rolling it down?
I've heard of aftermarket systems being able to do this, so it must be possible by adding something to the window motor switch. Or maybe tapping into the same switch the button inside the cab uses. I don't know much about wiring so these are just guesses.

I'd like to know this too. What's the use of having a remote to roll it down when you have to stick the key in to roll it up anyway, might as well stick it in and unroll it, get your stuff out or put stuff in, and then roll it up and pull the key back out. At least then you have a place to hang the keys to free both hands.

Hey Redline did you figure it out. I have a service manual that tell you how to reset and add remotes using the control box which is located under the driver seat in Taco's(I'm not sure about 4runners, but the manual has a diagram to locate on all models). I will gladly help you out, but I don't want to go through the trouble if you've already figured this out. And next time you should check Ebay. You can buy a remote for like $20 that is the same remote as the one you bought from the dealer.
