Does anyone know what the rail is in this pic bolted to the exhaust manifold? Does this recirculate exhaust back somewhere? I don't think every 22RE has it...maybe for emissions purposes or because it's Canadian? I just started thinking about getting headers like Downey's or LCE but wondering if this rail can bolt right up to an aftermarket header? Here's the pic.

it should bolt right on.

 

There's a mod truck to make yer life easier tho...

When yo get the thing apart - you find that there are two studs that are attached to the air injection manifold that attach it to the pipe that goes back around the head.

CUT the studs off
drill and tap yer fav size hole in the stud (10mmx1.25 is what I used)

When you re-assemble it - now use bolts going back the other way.

Trust me - with LC headers - its FAR easier to assemble now...

 

The two outside ones? Do I just cut it to where it would be flush with the air injection manifold?...sorry, I'm a little confused as to what/which ones you are talking about it and the method. If I loosen the nut on the outside ones then unscrew the bolt on the inside, take air injection manifold off, then cut the studs flush with the header?

 

Observation, that radiator hose looks like its going to pop

 

Ya it does look a little swollen...I've been meaning to do a flush and replace any damaged hoses....had one blow on me last year so I'll think I'll just change them all to be safe. Thanks.

 

So, I've done a little research but still am still unsure of what header to get. I've heard good things about LCE,Downey and Doug Thorley and all have had there share of minor install issues but is there anything else out there?

what it looks like to me is a stand off for the EGR to collect gasses and port them back into the intake.

Although I may be wrong, cant see your intake fully with the pic?
Correct me if I am wrong I have a 3.poo not much experience with the four bangers.

 

its an emmisions thing. my truck has the spots for it but no signs of it anywhere else. personally i would reccomend the lce ones.

 

and you need to make sure what ever headers you get have provisions for it
