clutch?

I am looking to buy a new clutch kit. I am running a stock engine that I just bought from Jasper Motors. I do not need a high performance clutch. I need something that is reliable and not going to drain my wallet?

I have the marlin HD, and it has a pretty stiff pedal. I am going to try wabfab next time. All of my driving is in town, very little offroad, but I do pull a trailer and marlins clutch locks up well when towing. I put about 50,000 on it and no probs.

a side note: I've read on a site that the "step" on the flywheel should be machined so many thousandths for better pedal feel. Is this correct? I can't remember the spec off-hand.

I put the Marlin Crawler clutch in a couple of months ago and have nothing but good things to say. The kit came with everything I needed and went in without any problems. I had my flywheel machined at a local shop for $20 as well. Recommend doing the shifter seat while you are doing the job... mine was in a thousand pieces and for ten dollars more it is worth it!

Sorry don't mean to thread jack, was wondering how stiff the 1200lb and 1600lb Marlin or Wabfab are as my clutch in my 87 is literally on its last legs(slips in 3rd and 4th and when starting on inclines). I can handle a little stiffness but don't want to have a clutch that feels like it belongs in an old 1ton full size from the early eighties(the ones that require you to use both legs to engage). Just want something that is going to last a long time and will allow me to pull a 1200-1500lb atv trailer without problems. Either way I want to go ceramic. Any help/advice is appreciated.

Don't do ceramic. Ceramic handles far differently than semi-metalic organic clutches!

As a ceramic clutch heats up it sticks MORE, which is opposite that of a organic clutch.. However theres literally little to no slippage with a full ceramic clutch. ... I'm sure you'll get real sick of it, real quick.

Pedal feel has to do with the the pressure plate you're using. A 900 to a 1200 to a 1600 ... the higher the rating the more force is needed to counteract that pressure.

I have marlins 1200lb and the feel is perfect IMO. Compared to the stock clutch on an 87 2wd its stiffer but just right. I hate how easy the clutch pedal is in the 2wd.. .. marlins 1200lb is perfect for me.

Thanks for the heads up. Someone told me tha the ceramic acted the same as a semi-metalic organic, but lasted longer. Kinda had a feeling that he wasn't right. Good thing i have YT to consult with first.
I agree about the stock pedal feel. Too soft. Leaning towards a 1200lb.

centerforce blew up in my truck....it lost almost all of the material on the pressureplate side and over .33% of the material on the flywheel side....I did a marlin 6 months ago and love it.
