they are on and awsome!

ok, I had to put these on at night with-out noisy imapct tools that could wake up the kids. the PO had put AAL's on and really buggered up the end of the U-bolts. so after trimming the ends off and cleaning up the threads I started at 9:00 pm saturday night finished at 11:22 pm. lucky for me my rig has not a bit of rust and the bolts come out like they are supposed to! the ride hight was 14" from the edge of the wheel to the fender well before and 14.5" after (I can live with .5!!! ) remember my old set up was stock springs with AAL's and a shackle lift!

here's what I started with:

here's in process:

and what I ended up with:

of course what good would wrenching until mid-night be unless you got to try them out the next day! Ifigured what better way yo break them in.

At the local river bottom with only 10 miles on them (the drive from home to there)

this is after the front tire had come down a foot!

initialy I'm impressed, the tire stuffed up enough that it was within 1/4 of an inch of rubbing the rear , the springs ride better than my original set-up too. I'm sure they will flex better after they break in more! I like em

thanks trdparts4u.com !

Mike, I am glad they worked for you. They should settle in soon. Let us know if we can do anything else.

Mike,

The springs look MUCH better. They're even curved the right direction. Did you put the extended shackles back on? Or did you go back to stock length shackles?

Which Rancho 5000's do you have on there?

Phil, if they settle out won't he lose the .5" that he has?

i'd not be losing anything if they settle, the truck is set up at the .5" lower ride height. over stock i netted about 3" lift. I've got the numbers of the rancho's at work( i'll get thgem for you tomorrow), but I'd spend a few dollars more and get the RS9000's or the OME shocks over the RS5000's <---- (just a cheap all around shock).

no on the extended shackles, i dug out the original shorty OE toyota shackles! However I may try some custom single plates in the similar length to get more rotational flex after they break in, the OE have bolts fixed to one side of the shackle plate in a "C" shape, doesn't give much flex room.

thanks!

Wow! 3 inches. So are you saying that the OME's have the travel that your RS5000's do?? (If so, no worries about model numbers.) That's what I was impressed with was the travel you're getting out of your shocks (and springs for that matter). That's what I want, is more travel. I'd much rather have the OME's if they will give that kind of travel. I like the concept of adjustable valving of the RS9000, but if I can get what I need (flexy on the trail, firm on the highway) from the OME, I'm happy.

so far they are great, altough its only been a few days. i did notice that one of the retaining clamps on the right spring is hitting the fuel tank seam at full flex, nothing a hammer won't fix! the rear shocks are 5143's 25.8" extended and 15.5" collapsed (thank you roger brown)

OME shock specs

Found this list of the specs for OME shocks for comparison.

http://www.lazykracker.com/ome2005.html

It lists the N85 & N94 OME shocks as 22.89" extended and 13.92" compressed. Looks like about 2-3" shorter.
The N98 (front) is listed at 15.17" & 9.71" .

Looks like you'd have to find another OME shock with the same attachments with a longer stroke to match what you have in travel... Like an N75 or N76, maybe a N22, 25, N29 or N104 for the rear. Have no idea what it would take for the front to get longer travel. Maybe the N98 will let it go from bumpstop to bumpstop with BJ spacers, but I don't know.
