I'm thinking about going big this year and want to see pics of yota's on big tires if you got them.

I'm thinking of 36-38" on 8-10" of lift with up to 5:71's. I rarely ever drive my truck offroad anymore, but its my DD and I want something to stick out.

I'll probably end up wth some 37x13.5's, but I'd like to see any tire 35" or bigger.

Please mention the brand of tire, the size, backspacing on the rim if known, and how much lift you have on the truck.

Btw, I have heard all of the arguments about bigger than 35" tires, and about going with 5:71's and am prepared to take the chance. I don't need to be dogged on either of those. But thanks for the concern.

 

i wouldnt go any larger than 35's on ifs and 5.29's...ask molly, she's broken her 5.71's

Molly has a SAS and the regular 8" diff, too - not the much weaker 7.5" IFS diff.... (oh - and yes, you are correct to point out that SHE broke them - I had nothing to do with it!)

My 35x12.5 BFG Mud's 4" Susp and 3" Body

 

35x12.5r15 on 15x8 rims, 3.75" backspacing. TG 5" springs f/r. Like the others have said, don't go lower than 5.29's.

I drove a 83 pickup 22RE(motor swap) with 4:10's on 35x12.5 MTR's from Sac to Tahoe and didn't have any issues climbing hills....sure, lower gears would have been better, but it was tolerable.

Hey boriswebs, do you think you could squeeze a few more inches of tire under there or are you close to rubbing?

Until I get more funds in the bank my lift will be very similar to yours... I'm going to start with a 4-5" Superlift kit and then I'll probably add bj spacers in the front and go with a 5" spring kit in the back and possibly a 2 inch over shackle... With the 3" BL I already have I'm thinking that should clear 37x13.5 or 14.5 pretty well...

Btw 4Mogger I read your buildup thread a while back over on pirate... That truck is a pure thing of beauty but I couldn't afford the paint on your axles...

Here are some of my 35 BFG's.... 4" susp, no crappy BL...








I think you will run into width issues on a 13 or 14" wide tire.. .even with that much lift... If you dont go offroad anymore the BJ spacers will provide a little more clearance, but when you take it offroad you will loose that clearance... something to think about.... But If I was able to get 35's to fit without rubbing and only pinch weld mods up front, you should be able to get a 37 to fit with a 3" BL, may take a 3lb sledge... but its possible... The other part is when you go wider than 12 you really need a 10" wheel... which takes up more room as well... where with a 8" rim, or 17x9" the tire is overall a little narrower and fits out small wheel wells better...

 

Yeah, I suppose there are some torque differences between the 4cyl and the 6cyl. I was able to track that mileage during a trip to Moab. The 4Runner itself weighs in at 5000lbs. When I loaded it up for my trip; wife, 3 dogs, camping gear, recovery, etc, I know I was pushing 6000lbs. So, on a slow trip to Moab at 60mph, I was very happy to pull in 20mpg.

 

Your truck looks very nice for having only 4" of lift...

It's encouraging that you are able to run 35's with only 4" of lift too. How wide are those?

I don't like the monster truck look, but too tall and skinny doesn't look good either.

I'm thinking that 37x13.5 will put me in the rarity club I want to be in, and clear pretty well on the street. Heck, I cleared 32x11.50's with only a torsion bar crank back when I first got the truck. They rubbed during hard turns and bumps, but they were on the truck. With 8-10" of lift I think it's certain that a 5" taller tire will clear just as well (hopefully. )
