87runnerhawaii's 87 4runner

529 gears with lockers front and back
4 in. Suspension lift
33x12.5 pro comp mud terrains
Rebuilt 22r with a 32/36 weber carb

Now I need to change the cv boot on driver side and I have a sway in the rear. Sway only happens when I pull out hard or down shift to fast. Tried tightening the u-bolts. Not the problem. Figured out its the leaf spring bushings

When I was IFS I pressed the studs out of outer front axle flanges and replaced with heavy graded bolts. Made swapping CV a breeze, 20-30 min job. How's idler arm?? I used to go through those too.

Idler arm is good still. I might do SAS if I can find a decent one here in the islands.

The add a leaf walks out. Ive rechecked to see if u-bolts loosened up. They were tight. Used a rubber mallet to bring it back straight. Test drove it and looked under they moved again. Anyone run into this problem?
Could it be because I haven't changed my leaf spring bushings yet?

Mine always did that when I had them. The factory leaves have the retaining straps on them to prevent that. You can fab up your own set as well.

I'm back in Washington now. I only lived in Maui for about a year...that was way back in 95'. Need to go back one of these days, I still have faimly there. I wish I had a first gen 4runner back then, it's got to be sweet cruisin with the top off living there!

We use the ski holders for our fishing poles 😉😉

I got the clear markers off of amazon. I think it was 30$ not to sure on the exact price. Ebay might be cheaper👍

The only one I know of that makes a replacement is toyotafiberglass.com. Otherwise you would have to source a good used one or like you said fab your own. Your 4 runner is looking good!

That's sweet. Fiberglass= no more rust
It's a work in progress. I got it totally gutted. Added a second Gen 4runners center console. Rewired the second gens tailgate window switch to the old harness thanks to chefyota4x4. Next is to mock up some interior panels. Theres none in at the moment but it's either particle board or going heavy duty with Diamond plate

Reading everyone's build up has been helping a lot.
