Your truck shines up nice. I keep the drain holes clean in the rear. Also look at the drain holes on door and rocker panels. They can clog as well.

How Rear Window Control Works

(I think I lost original post so here it is again.)

Rear Window/Wiper Relay is behind panel near driver side seatbealt mechanism here:

Relevant wiring runs behind panel near left side of rollbar here:
Top Off Switch is the black cube. Bolt "B" should be the right length to reach it and close its contact. To eliminate the cover/top-off switch as suspect, jump the two pins of that white connector (to the left of my red test cord).

Connector for Rear Window & Wiper Relay here:

Up-Down pins to use so you would not need ignition to be on are pins 11 & 12

Pin Numbering here:

PIn-outs courtesy of 4Crawler here:

Check against schematic here:

Location of Circuit breaker here:

How tailgate window control switch (aka key switch) works:
Wire to pin 11 (light blue-white stripe) when connected to ground (via terminal 3 of top-off switch) will lower window.
Wire to pin 12 (lt blue-blk stripe) when connected to ground (via terminal 3 of top-off switch) will raise window.
(To test relay function, touching directly to chassis ground will work regardless of state of top off switch)

Console switch Operation:
Connecting wire going to pin 4 (Green with yel stripe) to ground (via window Down button, door lock button, top-off switch, and rear door clock switch) will lower window,
Connecting Pin5 to ground (Red yellow stripe) in same manner as above will raise it.

Safety Interlocks - when activated prevent window from rolling up and/or down:
(will be updated as I actually work with them hands-on)
Rear wiper retract switch (out of park position). When rear wiper is not in park position, this switch closes and grounds pin 13 of the rear window control relay module. To eliminate this as a suspect, disconnect the connector (here) on the rear wiper assembly.

To test relay function (see schematic), assuming it has power, bypass up/down switch, door lock switch, top-off switch, and rear door lock detect switch:
Jump one of the pins above at a time directly to ground and see if relay produces proper out voltage and polarity at pins 1 & 3. Jumping the other direction pin to ground should reverse the voltage at 1 & 3.

Most welcome, Sir. And Thanks, too. Wishing you well with the rear window troubleshooting. Just make sure your mech starts with the simple stuff first.

Thanks, Robb. I'm merely translating what the geniuses did so the average Yota owner could understand what they said - LOL!

wow, serious stuff RAD, always had issues with people waiting for me to turn upon crossing intersection; they can't see any side turn signal function because on the 1st gen, there isn't one until now! you'll have no trouble finding a gig.

BTW, the tailgate window issue I've had is getting more involved; the failure is intermittent-sometimes it fails, but when I take it in to shop, it works. Mechanics stated they cant troubleshoot problems if none are present; I watched it work. Works fine in front of them. No pattern of usage (motor heatup) noticeable -mechanics ran it up and down for 10 minutes with no failure. They suspect could be a worn motor. I have good unit from original '87 gate off this truck. Current gate is actually '86; originally gate swap didn't function until, wiring components from the '87 harness were swapped into the now present -86 tailgate. Then it worked fine for over a year. Unfortunately replacing TG motor requires disassembly of tailgate internal assembly that slides out of the top of the gate itself, once the rusted screws are removed at top window edge molding. Disconnecting the side lock levers is hairy. Saw it done once by dealer body man replacing window tracks 7 years ago. Hope the tech is still employed there and well. . The bolts to the TG motor are affixed to the TG shell assembly backwards from the inside; Might have to go to a dealer...or wait for spring; NorEaster (snow)heading up NewEng(VT( this week) no more window for awhile.
appreciate all the insight and expertise.

Troubleshooting: High Beams do not Work but flash and low beams work

(Putting this here for ease of finding later)

Symptoms:
BOTH high beams do not work,
High beam flash works AND low beams work.
Turn headlights on. Make sure low beams come on.
Switch to high beam. Still no light, of course?
Find Pins 5 (Red-Yel Wire) and 13 (wht-blk) of dimmer combo switch . Jump 5 to 13. Got highs?
If you get high beam, it's bad contact between those 2 pins. You may be able to clean or fix. However, the flaw in headlight wiring of that generation where current flows on thin wire over a convoluted path (ask 4crawler) and though the dimmer-combo switch will shorten it's life again.
If you still don't get highs, jump pin 5 directly to shiny, bare metal ground. Got highs? If yes, it's bad connection between pin 13 and ground.

(I have not actually done this work hands-on, so would appreciate if anybody could share pictures of switch and test points/pins.)

If you wrote a manual for wiring schematic translations, I would buy one. I can wire speakers.....Well, that's about it.

Desert Wildflower Bloom

Took the MoreFunner to Coyote Canyon and other wildflower viewing spots in Borrego Springs, CA.Camped one night in Coyote Canyon...
Great show of bloom.
I also "recovered" a 1990's Jeep Cherokee; "recovered" from a stall, that is. stalled near my camp. No spark so we looked for IGN fuse. Pulled it out to inspect, and re-installed. Engine restarted. Probably bad contacts from corrosion.

All the way in Coyote Conyon to the first creek crossing is non-technical at all. Many sedans go there...

Thanks for sharing the photos. Our landscape is flat cow pasture or cypress heads with an occasional swamp.

Great pics Ray, those wildflowers are fantastic, but nothing like the shot of breakfast and coffee on the tailgate of a 4runner.
