Advice on external HD

I want to get a new external HD for my trip overseas. I currently have a 80GB IOMEGA that is great, but its big and bulky, and requires 110v..

So what I am looking for is 60-120GB, compact, and powered by USB 2.0 (read: no wall power needed)...

Any reccommendations what to get, or what not to get?

Thanks for the help...

I have a Western Digital passport. It's 40 gig, small and powered by a USB.

These are great and have come down a bunch in price. I think I saw one at Costco that was 120 gig and maybe $130. When I bought my 40 gig a year or so ago, it was probably $150.

It's great, easy to pack and I've had no issues w/ it.

They have cases for laptop hard drives (2.5")...

Did you see the config I put together for "Ultra Portable"?

The specs on that enclosure... Dimensions 5.2" x 3.15" x 0.6"

I am taking my 40GB IPOD, buts its full of 20GB of music....

The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards a bigger HD, 120GB.. I use my computer to makes movies and some of the raw files are 30GB+, a big external HD would really help...

Thanks for all the ideas.....

Yep, all you'd need to do is get a 2.5" enclosure to put it in.

Yes. The "funky plug" is a type of USB port. As long as you use the cable it comes with, that's all you'll need. If you use a longer cable, it might not power itself.

Here's my 100gb solution to that problem. I bought the housing, then loaded it up with the drive. The cord that comes with the housing has two USB plugs on it, so if one has trouble powering the unit on wimpy machines, you can use a second.

Okay, so... I had wanted to use that 60gb that I have in my wife old POS laptop... but it has other issues... So I ordered a new computer. I got a desktop with more than enough space and will do all she needs... and her laptop will still work for e-mail and such so she can surf the net out of the office.... Which means I can use the 60gb for me... so I orderd the small case from newegg..

Thanks for the advice Churnd... saved me $$$$

Firewire is where you should be looking. Higher data transfer rate than USB and most of the FireWire drives require no external power source. SmartDisk is where I put my money.
