Whats a good affordable cb???

Hey guys,

I figure it's gettin to be time to pick up a cb.
Where can I find a small fully functional cb for relatively cheap?

I'm thinking 50-75 bucks, but if I'm gonna miss an important feature, maybe I should spend more?

What are your opinions??

Wal-Mart has the Cobra WX STII 18 for ~$60. Lots of people here have them and they're great.

Try to stay with the Cobra, away from the cheaper radio shack ones... Brad (TacoBell) had a radio shack one, after switching to a Cobra (and firestik), it was a night and day difference! I have the Cobra WX STII 18 and it fits perfectly in my 86 4Runner

Stay away from Radio Shack stuff and get a good antenna. I found a Wilson "Lil Wil" magent mount at a garage sale and it is great! Firestick makes good antenna's too. Cobra or Uniden make good products - just pick one with features you'll actually use and that's in your price range.

It's just above your price rang but I bought a Cobra WXST from Amazon.com last week for 93.99. It's definately small as it has everything in the hand unit and then just a small relay thingy you mount out of site that the CB connects to.

This is the one I have. I got it for about $65 at a local truck stop. The antenna will be extra, so keep that in mind for your budget. Mine works great - couldn't be happier.

What about antennas? Is there anything inconspicuous that works well. Or is it Best to get one of those monster antennas mounted on my bumber?

I've got a 2' NGP (No Ground Plane) antenna mounted to my roof rack that works great.

I used the above CB that Tacoma Dude shows. It works well with 1/4 or 1/2 wave antenna. Ugly stick or fire stick works. Both can be bough at your local truck stop. I mounted mine to my pickup bed. SWR meeter indicated the output of the CB was 1 watt more than expected. Only gripe was receiver sensitivity. The CB scanner and WX (weather) options are great!

I'm very happy with this Cobra 25 classic:

It is very quiet, RF gain control, noise blanker, auto noise filter. I had it peaked, freqed, tweaked and roger beeped for free at the truck stop I bought it at. It may be big and bulky, but it's clean and clear.

My ant is a K40 wire whip mounted on top:http://community.webshots.com/photo/...69462139PtKSFk

'Goat, I like it on the roof.
I am still thinking someday of putting my Cobra 29 up there.
Looked at roof top consoles, but I don't want the bulk from them up there.

I don't know about a 29 up there, the 25 is just small enough to fit up there but any bigger could be a problem unless you're only like 5 foot tall or something.

The guy has a feedback score of 92 and it is 100 percent positive, plus he has a blue star, whatever that means. The total came to 34.00 after shiping. The firestik ran like 26 bucks, I'm sure thats not a steal, but whatever. I saved on the cb. Can't wait to get it now.
