Cb And Antenna Mounting
hey all , i am getting a CB radio for christmas , for my 95 4runner, and was wondering from those of you who have one, where is a good mounting place for it and the same for the ANT. are the magnetic mounts better as opposed to the hard mount.

I mounted mine on the right side of the trans hump... now I have a Cobra 75 WX and its contained in the mic and much nicer for space.. for the antenna I prefer the ones that mount on the fender, near the windshield.. this way I can reach it thru the window if I need to bend it out of the way for any reason..

i drilled a hole on the left side of my rear bumper for my 4' firestick and ran the cable under the bed and through one of those holes behind the cab and then under the seat to the transmission hump. Its a good system but the antenna mount kept bending from tje wind resistence so i got a spring. You can see some pics of the setup in my signature link

I work in the city so having a hand-held out in the open is kinda difficult. I took out the factory pocket below the radio, ground down the radio frame, and mounted a Cobra 18WXST there. The mic is mounted to the center console, directly in front of the armrest. Keeps it handy for off-road and keeping tabs with the truckers.
The antenna, for now, is an old magnet-mount on the roof with the wire tucked under the weather stripping. When i'm not going to use it, At some point or another I'll get around to getting a Firestick and mounting it to the spare tire carrier. Thought I had a shot, but I'll snap a pic tomorrow when its light out.

No doubt!!

Not sure what CB you got, but many on YT use the one shown above that slips in where the ashtray was with great success.
I have a Wilson 2000 antenna bolted to the roof. That things picks up and transmits signals from a great distance. Plus makes a really cool sound when going under tree branches.

just finished this install. i had an old maxon 40ch cb sitting in my garage from my days of wheeling. i wanted to put it in my 98, but will only be using it for roadtrip, emergency use, so i wanted it out of the way. so i decided to put it in my console. this wasn't possible in my 94 due to the rear heat, but unfortunately i don't have heat in my 3rd gen.
here's the bracket i had to make to start off with, original was long gone.

pic of the console

i removed the inner "tub" of the console to keep all the bolts out of site. then drilled out the back for the coax, power and external speaker.

i drilled a hole in the back for the bolt that holds the cb to the mount. this will be accessible after the console is reinstalled through the cupholder

final pic of installed cb, and external speaker. i used the external speaker because the one on the unit sucks.

the antenna will be hood mounted only during roadtrips or emergency situations. i have to pick up a fire ring stud to go on the bracket i made.
