New clarion deck installed. Aux input sounds crappy??

I got a really good deal on this deck the other day and I really like it. The main reason I bought this deck though is the fact it had aux input on the back so I could listen to my ipod through the stereo. There is two inputs on the back and I have a monster cable running to my ipod that has two connectors on one end and one on the other. (goes into the headphone jack on my ipod) I plugged it in and the music was only coming out of my back speakers. i tried the other input and it only came through the fronts. I tried all kinds of various configurations and never got sound through all the speakers so i settled for just the front two. Do i need to get a cable with four plugs on one end or something? (excuse my ignorance but I am unfamiliar with stereo terminology and pretty dumb with electronics overall) Sound comes through all speakers when i am listening to the radio or a cd. Weird.

Secondly, the sound quality when listening to the ipod really sucks when compared to listening to a cd or something. What am I doing wrong here? :pat:

i think you need 2 Y connector to separate your ipod output going to your deck?!

many decks have dual inputs these days meaning you can listen to one thing in front and another in back. check the settings on the deck very carefully. there will probably be a way to change that. i know my brother was bugging out trying to fix the same problem.

I don't have a Clarion, Because they SUCK, but on my Kenwood I had to set every different input as far as bass, mid, treb. The reason mine is like this is because the DVD and radio have different sources and may require different tweaking to make them sound the same. Oh one more thing on my iPod there is a wat to tweak the sound IE Rock, Pop, Jazz, you know what I mean right? try to mess with that for a while. But really I think you need to adjust the bass, mid, treb, for every input. Hope it helps. Oh one more thing, can't you buy an iPod hook-up built for that exact model, and it will charge it as well as play? I know Kenwood has one.

I really like the unit itself, plus I got a really good deal on it so whatever. When I'm running the ipod, I cant adjust the volume, bass, treble, etc. through the deck I have to use the EQ on the ipod. On the deck, there is an aux input sensitivity option (low, med, high) but I dont notice any difference at all when I change it.

Any more input?

look on the front of your deck. there should be a button that says 2-zone. push and hold it and it should disable the 2 zone option. and then i would make sure that your rca connectors are connected to the correct aux input on the rear of the deck. usually these are color coded and the owners manual should tell you which one to connect an mp3 player to.

Sorry but Clarion is better than Kenwood. Make sure your Ipod's volume isn't at 100%. Above 75% it will cause clipping and sound pretty bad not to mention thats terrible for your speakers.

I've always been impressed by Clarion's ProAudio lineup (except for the 32" pos sub they made,) and well kendwood I have never cared for any of their products....

As others have said it's probably just a setting on the deck itself about the dual zones. As far as the sound, I agree turn the vol down on the iPod itself and you might also want to tweak the sound on the iPod itself. Either that or get a direct connect iPod interface for the clarion.
