Maybe a fuse burnt out? connection loosened for power? If the radio did break however, I bet there are people around here with stock radio's left around from there upgrades. I for one have one, but I'm not sure if it would work with your application.

If fuses are OK and connections are OK, try disconnecting the battery for a few seconds, the reconnecting it. You never know, maybe it needed to be reset.

i checked the radio fuse it was still good, its really weird, it seems that the cd player might have a seperate fuse inside it or somehting . it happened at the EXACT second the truck started. anyone know how to take the radio out, i only saw one screw when i was looking(why cant it be as easy at the 4runner?!) thanks

If your Taco is like mine, it goes something like:

1. Take off HVAC knobs
2. Pop off the front plate that has the fan speeds; heat/cold on it....BE CAREFUL
3. Unscrew the screw on the right side you should see now
4. Pop off the black part with the vents and ect in it

There's your radio

EDIT: I can take pictures tomorrow if you want. Dont follow the guide here, you will end up taking off a bunch of stuff you dont need to.

Okay first:

Then take off your heat knobbies:

Then, get yourself a small flathead screw driver, and start pryin(go easy, though, the AC button doesnt come out easy):

Take out this screw:

Start Pryin again, this should pop right off:

You will then see the four screws that hold the pocket and the radio in a "carriage".

There you go.

i never really liked the stock cd players but you can alway do what you like. So did your parents buy you your 98 tacoma because if they did you are so lucky, cause my parents helped me out to buy me my 90 4 runner.
