IPOD for a dummy

Ok, I really new to the whole ipod thing. So lets say I get like one of the nano units. Now I have a new pioneer in my trail rig (deh-p470mp). So is this how I can go about hooking up my ipod to my deck? So do I get thisadapter from my deck to this adapter ? I think thats how its supposed to be done but I wanted to make sure I am going about this right

That would work perfectly! However, there are cheaper ip-bus adapters available, if you shop around.

I thought I might add that for the audio cable, you really don't need Monster brand cables. It's a lot od money for little to no benefit.

I second that on the Monster cable thing. I'm a cable installer and the monster stuff seems to cause more problems than do any good from the stuff that I've seen. This guy I did a job for had this really expensive box thing with cool l.e.d.'s and everything... it was HUGE... a circuit city guy had talked him into buying it... it was nothing more than a surge protector with a few outlets with coaxial in and outs (that's a no no) NEVER use those coaxial ports on ANY surge protector... just causes interference... plus... the cable is already grounded out..

The only problem with this item is that you lose control of the ipod using it's own buttons...with this you HAVE to control it from the headunit..which, IMO is a PITA.

Myself I would love to toss the ipod in the center console and just use the deck but if you saw my rig I have enough levers/buttons to play with. But for that much $$ na, I think I will keep it simple,lol....

if you can keep away from using the headunit to control the ipod and just stick with the ipod wheel, navigating thru the controls will be 100x easier. Just a fyi, i've found a couple Ipods on ebay, 20, 30 and 60gb ipods for less than a new Nano, and a few still have warranties. Dont know if you need that much GB's, but thought i would throw that out there.

I have that module, and wish I didn't. Yeah, it'll control the iPod through the deck, but that's as good as it gets. Unless you wanna shell out a grand for a top of the line pioneer deck, you're not going to be able to see more than 5 characters of the song name displayed onto the deck screen... if any. The time it takes to browse through the songs is painfully slow. Imagine one or two seconds to get from one song to the other. No, it doesn't seem like much, but if you've got hundreds of songs on the iPod, it can really get annoying.

I wish I had gone the other route. I would have saved some money and be able to control the iPod from the iPod itself. The right kinda car mount makes this much more enjoyable than you'd think.

Just remember, you can't use the bender or the welder on your ipod...that would be bad!
