iPod connector for rigs

Came across this
http://www.icarkits.com/

Seems they have one for my rig.

http://www.icarkits.com/product_info.php?products_id=66

Looks like it will hook up to the Sat. radio jack in the back of the FJammer stereo that comes with my rig.
Also it will display the text of the song on my stock radio, something it can not do right now.

Also my steering wheel controls will control the iPod.
Gonna have to get one to see if it works as stated.
I am in touch with them too for more info to see if it works with my 30 GB iPod Video or not.

I bet this works with quite a few facotory stereos.

My next door neighbor put one in his Audi. He says he can use the steering wheel controls.

It will save me over a grand right now.
I really want the Alpine W200 as seen in another thread by me.
The Alpine W200 is a 6.5" screen DVD double DIN head unit that can also totaly control the iPod via its touch screen.

Kind of a PITA to reach down and select songs from the iPod itself, but it can be done.

With the interface I posted here you will have total control over your iPod from the factory head unit and steering wheel controls if you have 'em.

I will still get the Alpine in the future, as it has pre-amp outs for speaker and bass amps, then I can put my old school Rockford Fosgate 500a2 amp back in along with my JL W6 15" sub woofer

Anyone order one of these?
Does the stock Toyota headunit in the 3rd/4th gens and the Tacoma display text?
If so, it will work, but I think you need the sat connector too on the back of the headunit.

Mine should be here tomorrow, but it will be awhile before I get around to pulling the dash apart.

I think I am going to attempt this install myself.
Found some good pics online of pulling the FJ dash/headunit out, does not look to bad.
It would save me about $20 to $40 in labor over having Cartoys do it.

The guy answers the phone there pretty quick if you want to find out.

Here is another brand
http://www.smartcart.com/FJCruiser/c...item_num=FJpod

Says it uses the CD changer outlet.
My FJammer headunit is also a 6 CD changer, so this one may not work with my headunit.

Thanks Corey, but I think I'll stick with my $6 cassette tape adapter.

It came today, lots of cables
I will attempt to do it this weekend if I get the time.
Gotta pull the dash apart.

If I tackle this, I will have a detailed write-up with pics on my website, then later a tech write-up for the forum.

On a side note, I have a bunch of movies and music videos on my iPod.
I just watched a music video piped through the FJammer stereo, and it sounded darn good.
The iPod does support video out, and this icarkit company makes a vid adaptor too letting you run your iPods video source to a larger screen or headrests with vid screens in them.

Maybe that huge dead space below the passenger side airbag?
You have room there to mount a 15" screen I bet.

PS, found a Flash movie on their site of how this works too.
http://www.diceelectronics.com/ipod_integration.htm

Install manuals in PDF form are there too.

Other than the glitch of the text not showing up with the song name (see the link above) this unit is saweeeeet.

When it is playing the iPod and you switch over to FM1, FM2, a CD, ect...
The iPod pauses, you do not have to reach down and push pause on it.

And when you power off the stereo, the iPod also powers off.

Hopefully they will get the firmware upgrade out soon so it will fix the text bug.

Text Display on new Toyota's (including FJ Cruiser)

Hello everyone,

I'm a tech at DICE Electronics and am here to inform you that the text will be supported with a new firmware upgrade that will be available in about a week. Since we were having text and compatibility issues with the new models of Toyota, we started testing again and resolved the issues. This includes the Prius, 4-Runner, Sequoia, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, and all the other Toyota vehicles. The FJ Cruiser will now support text. All that is needed is a firmware update if you already have a DICE kit.

Hello Adam, nice to see the units now suporting the song text.
Can not wait to put the updated unit in and test it out.

I use my DICE unit daily driving to and from work.

It is also nice to not have to hook up the iPod everynight to charge it since the DICE unit charges it for me.

Thanks for coming out with a unit like this.

Those work, just like the aux. port on the front of the FJammer stereo to allow the iPod or any MP3 player to play through the stereo.

Problem I had when I had the iPod hooked up that way was trying to select a song or pause the unit, it is easy to wander into the next lane while fiddling with the iPod.

All control now is done by the head unit or steering wheel controls.
Safer for me

Report!

I am happy to report the updated DICE unit displays text, the firmware did it.
I have a few pics and a video.
Pay no attention to the song I named, I got the last word wrong, it was a very busy day at work

The text on the FJammer when playing the iPod will still show the track # and minutes/seconds you are into the song.
Push text once, and it will display the artist.
Push text once again, and it will then display the song title, that is what I will leave it on.

Pic one

Pic two, do not let the leg blind you
I think the reflection off my leg distorted the iPods screen :

1.30 MB MPG video

Works great, very happy, call up Dice and see if you can order one.
