I thought I should bring up the old panavise and proclip mounting options.

 

It looks good, but I wonder how many they are selling. That all takes space, if the remote is as big as the iPod I might as well just mount the iPod there and have the original interface.

The Alpine interface software needs some tweaking to make it really good, at least on the 9814 I have. Right now it takes far too long to browse albums and artists, I've never even tried to browse by track.

 

I thought i would add to this....Pioneer head unit...

bought the pioneer adaptor for auxillary input
bought a connector with rca outputs and power
everything connects thru the dock port

sounds great...tough to tell cd from ipod.

I need a dust case...what's everyone using.??

I read lots of bad reviews on the H&K Drive and Play. One reason why I didn't buy it. Sorry that I was so lax about putting up pictures, I'll do it on Monday. My computer with all the pictures is at work right now.

Wired fm modulators are actually a little better sounding than the cassette adapters, at least for sirius and xm...

 

I have a wired modulator in my car.
Its actually surprisingly not too shabby once you get a good eq setting on your ipod to maximize your sound on your stereo.

 

I have a Panasonic head unit that has the proper "Flat" iPod plug that plugs into the bottom of the Pod.

I have an aftermarket deck with two auxillary rca input slots so i dug in my computer graphics card "box of odds and ends" and came up with a cord that goes from your computer line out/headphone slot to the familiar red and white ends. I think you can buy it at radio shack for about six bucks. Yeah free mod. If you have an old all in wonder graphics card or audigy sound card you probably got one of these lying around. Anyway the cable tucks nicely under the center console when not in use and when i need it I just reach down an pop it out. The good thing about this mod is I can use it for my portable dvd player, other peoples mp3 players and even my laptop.

I was using it for an old mp3 player mostly but three weeks ago i caved in and got an ipod video. Gotta say im hooked now. I sincerely hope some of you uber skillz guys would consider making a yota tech podcast. That would be so very helpful. That podcasting thing makes the whole ipod video a freaking watershed of info. There are already a bunch of whitewater shows. Anyways, Im thinking of pulling the head unit and moving the empty DIN storage compartment to the top to make a sliding drawer type thing that I could just plop my ipod onto. I now wish I had that pull out cup holder in my 2000 that was in my 97. That is the perfect place for a steath ipod mount. I may have to spend a day at the junk yard, maybe an ashtray outta an old junker could make a sick ipod/mp3 player mount. Too bad no one has come out with an voice command attachment for the damn thing. "Ipod ... select ... playlist... fireroad..."


Hey I found some cheap arse cables available only for delivery at compusa. 24 bucks anyway. I went to store to check em out first but they only have em online. I should get em next week and I will let you know the degree of crapitude they turn out to be.

95 4Runner with an Alpine CDA-9856. KCE-422i iPod interface cable (charges and plays through HU). Works amazing as long as your music on your iPod was initially ripped at a high bitrate. At 128kbps the song has ok quality but at 320kbps it sounds as good as CD quality....sharp and clean

 

I've got the stock head unit with a tape adapter. The sound is far better than an FM modulator IMO. I've got the charger plugged into the socket and the ipod connection is run under the console to a hole i drilled in the armrest pocket where the ipod lies. That hole is finished off with a computer desk grommet. The tape adapter is in the tape slot, and the cord runs under the ashtray and then behind the dash so all you see is the tiniest bit. very stealthy.
