2way, 3way, or 4way speakers?
I have plenty of experience in replacing stock GM speakers but I'm wanting to replace mine on my own 4Runner. What's better 2way, 3way, or 4way speakers? Will the screws and tabs line up corrrectly or will I have to modify them? Will I need to get some addtional wires for a 3 or 4 way speaker? Thanks in advanced.

Anyone else? I probably should have clarified; I'm planning on going with aftermarket speakers. I do plenty of wiring and electricals at work so I really don't want to have to do any wirings for aftermarket 3 or 4way speakers.

I personally would go with component speakers, reason being they are specialized for their particular part of the sound experience, they aren't compromising by trying to produce parts of the sound spectrum they weren't meant to.
Go to any Electronics dealer and listen to the difference.....amazing.
Also, I prefer Infinity, it can vary depending on your musical tastes, I like to shop around for what suites me best so I can hear them and then check www.Crutchfield.com, they are usually cheaper.

Yes, components all the way.
I ran the Infinity Reference 6.5" in the doors of the old rig I had ('91 4Runner) and the tweeters were up above towards the front of the top door.
Sound is way better with components.

Components are sets of separate speakers, they usually consist of a two tweeters, two woofers (or mids), and two crossover units (used so the proper frequencies go to the proper speakers).
Best bet is to go to a good Electronics dealer near you and check them out, or go to www.crutchfield.com and you can get an idea what they are and how they fit.

Yes, I agree. If you can spend a lil more, do components. They sound much nicer. If you just want something decent to put in there, I would say 2-way. Just like components, but all in one. 3 ways are too crowded and 4 ways are rediculous.

If you get components I would recommend using an amp with them. Usally they handle a lot more power then your after market HU puts out and you would be underpowering them. With an amp you would be getting the full potential of the speakers.
If you are not planning on adding an amp I would recommend a good coaxial (2 or 3 way) speakers. Just my $.02

Dont do infinity's unless you have a sub, they dont like playing low frequncey's (esp without an amp)
Get 2-way components, you dont need 3 - ways.
pioneer prs components are VERY nice sounding lots of good components out there, but i like ones that can play low freq's....

I just installed a pair of Infiinity Reference 6022SI's and a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB. Sounds 10 times cleaner than stock. The aftermarket headunit provided enough power to the stock tweeters (near the A pillar) so I actually know their working now, and the 2-ways deliver enough bass for me.
the 6900UB is awesome. Ran the USB extension to my glovebox and can slap in my IPOD or any USB jump drive...no more burning CDs or hearing them skip!
woohoo!!!
