T-17 Modification

I was doin some thinking lately and came across the idea of modifying my T17...I dont know if this would work or not, or even if its a good idea but I thought i'd see what you guys thought. I also did a search on this but didnt come up with much...

Do you think it would work to add a center 'hoop' or grill guard to a T17? I've seen a modified T15 with the two outside guards removed, leaving the center hoop. Anyways, would it be too difficult to try and have someone professionaly bend and weld a metal tube to fit in the center section of the bullbar?

Give me any thoughts and ideas, thanks.

if yours is in good condition, scott (Stump1883) might be interested in a trade ( he's got a T-15 ) then you could just remove the outer hoops.

I have Matt (Localmotions') 4runner in front of my house. I am going to put ASURunners TJM T-15 on in the am. However, I think he wanted the T-17. Drop him a pm and see if he wants to swap. Either way I am mounting it, but that takes no time to take off.

if i remember correctly TJM makes an add on hoop for the center of the t-17 bumpers. you would probably have to contact them directly for it.

I saved this pic from somewhere of someone who had welded some other brand brushguard to his TJM. Sorry I can't remember whose it was, but I liked it enough to save a photo -

That is exactly what I thought of when I read the first post but I never saved that pic! Talk to Bamachem, I thought I remember him talking about adding a hoop to a T-17. (he has a T3 or something right?). I think there is an option for adding hoop from TJM:

http://www.desertrat.com/tjm/tjm_index2.htm

"The adaptable TJM T17 Bumper is available in black powder painted steel with provision for a low mount winch installation*. Optional Grille Bar (shown at left) also available."

Thanks for those pictures guys, I think I've seen that one before. The frabrication looks a little more extensive than what i was thinking of though, but I still like it allot none the less.

This is exactly what I was wondering about too. Does anyone else know if these hoops are still availible? If so, this would be the perfect fit for what I was hoping to do.

Thanks for the help

you can get a center hoop from an arb sahara bar and drill two holes and attach it to the t-17. tjm has some bumpers that already have them (chrome hoops). if you wanted it black, then you simply sand and paint or powder coat it, then install it.

i actually have two spares - don't ask - one has a ding in the top, so if you're going to paint it, it would be the one to fix and use. the other is regular chrome and in new condition...

i'll sell the one w/ a ding in it for cheap...

TJM Dealer and Custom Hoops

I am currently waiting to hard back from TJM on my dealer application. My plan is to bring a load of T-17 bumpers out to Arizona. I can then ship them common carrier like FedEx Ground or DHL for very little.

By stocking bumpers and trucking them in bulk I should do quite well. I am only going to stock the T-17 and only for Toyotas.

We are also working, well alot more than working, a jig is being made and the plans are fully drawn for a T-17 set of hoops. These will not look like the T-15 but will have a look where the headlight hoops are larger than the center hoop for a "mean" sort of look and the front tube will be slightly angled out for sort of a very mini stinger. If you want a T-15 just order a T-17 with the custom hoops. Or pay over twice the price of the base T-17 for the T-15 to be drop shipped.

No pics, sit tight, it will happen soon, when have I ever not followed through on what I bring to you guys.

It's too early to say, I still have to get approved. So until that happens and I get a load out here, I don't really have any idea.

The plan is to bring out:

1: 96-98 4Runner
2: 99-02 4Runner
1: 95.5-97 Tacoma
1: 98-00 Tacoma
1: 01-04 Tacoma

I also need to look into what is different in all of these and possibly edit the list. Some may be the same.

It does not sell. It seems most 2nd Gen guys want to "do it themselves".

Bottom line is if it sells, I'll make it or carry it. Here is an example:

For the year I did offer mail order style rear 4Runner bumpers:

30: 3rd Gens, yeah there are alot more out there than people realize.

3: 2nd Gen

1: 1st Gen
