More pictures for all you picture addicts tonight. I had to take a brand new craftsman 12pt 14mm deep socket and grind it down to fit in the head bolt holes. Dunno why they couldnt give another mm of clearance to fit a stock socket down there. . . I read some posts on supraforums and everyone has this problem so its not just my socket. The nuts don't even fit down there straight, you have to use needle nose pliers and angle them then try to start threading them. I also got some parts cleaned up and will install them today, got to use my friends sand blaster. They turned out great.

Pic 1: sandblasted and wire-wheeled valve covers pre-paint

Pic 2: valve covers painted and laid ontop of motor for effect , lower intake manifold/waterpump/lower timing cover installed after sandblasting/wire-wheeling

Pic 3: coolant flow line around motor after sandblasting and painting

the current debate is to paint the lower timing cover or not, i dunno if i like it silver or possibly black ? ? ? what do you guys think. The upper timing cover with the "7MGTE" logo on it is black plastic, view first page of pics to see what i mean. Yes i know the cams arent installed I had to take them out to torque the head studs down. Talk about a PITA, i had to grind my socket down to fit in the hole in the cast head. You can see the exhaust cam on the floor in the second pic

I heard JDM blue makes it go even faster.
Looks really good I think you should leave the plastic cover black just paint the letters maybe.

found the turbo kit i wanna do EVENTUALLY. . . SP61

Side view, wastegate vented to atmosphere.

Rear view of wastegate.

Bolts to the stock exhaust manifold. From what i've read 350-400WHP on pump gas is easy. With a ported manifold or tubular style you can get alot more too, but i would be THRILLED with 350 at the wheels. I'll probably go ahead and put in the upgraded fuel injectors and just run the stock turbo till it dies or i get enough money to upgrade it. Whichever comes first. I have too much i want to do and not enough income to support it all

Turbo by itself is $1100, add in the oil/coolant lines, wastegate, downpipe. . . its about a $2000 setup

With that much power and big tires you will be breaking other stuff-so also save up for driveshafts, axles, transmissions, etc.!

boost controller, when i go offroad boost = 0. the powa is for the pavement. Transmission is true however at the moment, but Rob from supracharged.com is supposed to be making me a custom bellhousing prototype to try out with a R series trans (150 from the V6 or 151 from the I4 turbo). Then i can run all the boost i want. Eventually ill be running a 14bolt rear but i think the toy rear end will be ok if i keep the burn-outs to a minimum.

not much new to report, money is the big hold-up now. Paying for the machining and new internal engine parts along with the recently passed christmas season about tapped out the funds i had saved up and im trying to resist the urge to max out my credit cards.

I did get the oil pump and pan installed, but thats about it. This week i want to order my new fuel injectors as well as fuel pressure regulator and pressure gauge.

An example install below, the stainless lines coming out from under the left of the intake manifold is the fuel return line, you can see the adjustable fuel pressure regulator bolted to the body, and the fluid filled gauge.

Don't max the credit cards, you'll be much happier in the end if you don't! But do get it done and tested by May! If money is the hold up in getting it done by then, we will understand.

ohh i'm not, my rule is i never put more money on the cards than i could pay off in 2-3 months worth, and thats only if i really feel it important to do so. I make a healthy living for myself so it shouldnt take too long to get the remaining parts i need.

The AFPR is not mounted correctly in that pic. I have the same kit and here's how mine looks:

It is designed to mount at an angle and the gauge screws into an empty port on the regulator.

Just my .02

he's running alot more power than i want (470HP @ 18psi on 114 octane i believe), i'm thinking more like 320-350 HP @ ~10-12psi and pump gas but damn that thing sounds nice. I like how he left the intake pipe open so you could see down in the turbo. Obvisouly he has a manifold pressure fuel system like ill be running unlike the vortex meter system or whatever its called thats stock. Thats also a really nice ball-bearing turbo, probably 2-3X as expensive as what ill be using.

Yeah, I'd be way happy with 300+ hp! Are you going to be able to make it to Tellico in May?
