my first fab project!
#1
ok so i bought a toyota. and i wheeled it and i blew it up. so i got another motor and i wheeled some more and i blew that engine too. so once more i put another used four cylnder in the truck and once more i blew it up.
now toyota is not totally to blame for this. part of it is the condition of the engine i decided to use. another is how i decided to use it.but faced with a delima. do i find another used engine?, rebuild one, or build a chevota or toylet as i also know them. so i took the easy route. time to throw a bunch of time and money down the toylet.
first off you should know a couple things about me. i am a decent backyard mechanic but have never been a fab guy. i now own an old arc welder, a gringer, and a chop saw. i am also self taught. since getting the welder i refabbed a fullsize chevy winch bumper to fit my toyota. that is the extense of my fab experience.so here it goes.
after talking with a few avid wheelers and getting some ideas i decided to do things a little different than what ive seen. i am going to put the motor as far forward as i can and run the radiator in the bed.now i didn't mention that since i bought this truck 18 months ago ,that besides the two engine installs i have also put on a used 3inch bodylift, 21/2 inch springs and a set of 1980 axels with 4.38 gears and linconlocked rear, also 35 in wild country txr crap tires.well i am already quite a ways into this project so i will try to get some pics up.

I am running the radiator in the bed of the truck with electric fans.that is my next step. i am currently working on the exhaust and after i get that done i am going to start plumbing the water lines back to the radiator. i am going to use exhaust pipe and hangers. well see how it works

ok well i got some pics up but never did explain what they were so here it goes. the first pic is my truck after lift and tires and on engine number three.which only ran for about two weeks(my fault) i replaced the rod and main bearings before i installed it and i am pretty sure i got them torqued down right but for some reason number one rod cap loosened up and i ended up stuffing the rod through the block. which led to this engine swap.pic number two is the truck in the shop after putting the 350 back together(last weekend) pic three is the drivers side engine mount and header. i bought these headers new and for some reason the drivers side did not fit until i trimmed the engine mount. a small problem compared to the stock manifolds and two sets of used headers i first tried to use. all three hit the frame on the passenger side almost dead center and since cuttting the frame was not an option for me i used these headers.pic four is my superfabbed rollbar/radiator mount. the roll bar was out of a fullsize chevy so i had to cut ten inches out of the center and cut and turn the rear bars down to land on the wheelwells. then i built a mount for the radiator and tranny cooler out of some angle and flatstock. the fans are used toyota fans with the shroud built from an old washing machine. see i have more ambition than money so i use what i have or what i can afford and make it work.although i did buy a couple parts new(the headers and a shifter).pic five is the engine all painted and pretty ready to go back in. i am currently running the exhaust and installing the tranny and t-case shifters. after that i need to get the water plumbed from the engine to the radiator.i have some more pics i will try to get them up soon
