Modify TJM brackets for a BL

How hard would it be to modify the brackets on a TJM to fit a Tacoma with a 3" body lift? I don't want to have a 3" gap between the bumper and the body. Also, it still needs to be sturdy enough for winching. Has anyone done this on a runner or tacoma?

I don't think there's 3" of material on the brackets to re-drill, so you'd have to fab up new ones. Not hard if you know what you're doing, but holding the bumper (and a winch) another 3" higher on the frame would generate some interesting loads. You'd want to put some gussets on the brackets.

Which TJM bumper? When I did a 1 1/2" body lift, I cut the bracket and moved it up, afterwards I added in extra bracing to make it secure. At 3" of lift, you'd need to really beef up the bracketry, especially if your planning on running a winch.

Try the lattice mod to bring the body down to the bumper, not quite as clean... but your bumper will be that much more solid!

yep... not enough material on existing brackets to make it work... so you'll have to fab something up.

well, i guess i'll just save up a little more money and get a custom one made...i'll have to pay someone to fab me up some brackets, so i'd rather spend a couple hundred more to get one custom made....

Just ran across this post because I was looking to see what other people had done. Thought I would share what I had found.
