So earlier this summer I fell across a deal on a new 12000 lb Badlands Winch that I couldn't pass up. So after buying it I knew it was time to step up to the plate and get a winch bumper. My problem was that I couldn't find one that I liked. The sky's bumper was close but still not what I wanted. So I built one myself. The main mount is modeled after a trail gear piece, just slightly larger to ensure my winch fit. 1/4 cold rolled steel is what it was bent and cut out of. I then decided that the main gussets on the winch plate should have the clevis mounts integrated so I made the gussets out of 1/2" plate. All the skin is 3/16, busted out the cardboard for some templates, and then drew everything up in solidworks and then sent it to the metal shop to get plasmacam'd out. Beefed up the frame mounts too, 1/4" front reinforcement along with a piece of c channel I had bent up and did the top, back, and bottom sides of the crossmember as well. Also added mounts on top of the crossmember to help pull in line with the reciever. I frenched the reciever tube so it is completely seamless across the front. The side mounts are made of schedule 40 steel pipe, .188 wall. The stinger/brushguard is also made of the schedule 40 pipe. All the fabrication was done by me in my garage with my dads Miller 251 MIG welder, plasmacutter, chop saw, sawzall, and grinder. Nothing too special. The only thing left now is to get it powdercoated or bedlined. Hope you like it.

 

 

While I was waiting for the tubing to get bent at the steel yard, I had em bend a piece of tread plate I had laying around so I could make my rear bumper more elegant. The rear bumper is a piece of 2x5 box, 1/4 wall. Uses boxed and sleeved factory mounts, and the rear frame section has been boxed and uses crush sleeves as well. Has been absolutely bullet proof while since I built it a few years ago, but It was time to make it a little nicer. So I added the tread plate.

Looks solid! Any idea on what the front bumper weighs?

 

Before the tubing it was roughly 90 lbs. Its probably a hair over 100 now. The weight isn't a huge concern for me, There is a 1UZ swap in the cards.

Just got the bumpers back from my cousin's powdercoat shop, we went with a hammered black powdercoat that he has available. Absolutely ecstatic with the results.
