Custom Bumper D Ring Question

so I have started to build my own bumper and have come to the very end of the project with just the finishing touches. but i have been getting all different answers when it comes to making my D ring mounts. what I am wondering is what thickness of material should I use? I haven't bought D rings yet, so there really is no limitations. I have no idea where to start. some people have said go with 1inch think bar stock others have said 1/4 inch.

any advice will help.

most of the aftermarket premade ones are made out of 1" bar, why not just use them. ?

Well, what you could do is stack the 1/4" plate up and weld it all together to make a solid mount. That way it'll be easier to make the hole for the actual d-ring(which is 5/8" IIRC...)

I have custom made everything else so far. I just though those could be made too.

they could be made, but hella hard to drill though 4 pieces of 1/4" let alone a 1" plate. Hope you got a darn good plasma cutter to cut a 1" bar too. lol.

You could do it in 1/8" plate...

If you have a good step up drill bit, it's a BREEZE to shoot holes in 1/4" plate. Just make sure you fire a good pilot hole first.

No matter what size you make these things they are only as good as the attachment to the vehicle . I understand all to well trying to figure the load on winching a 80,000 pound truck sunk to the axles in the mud

I work with lifting and pulling things all day .

Make them anyway you like heck 3/8" is plenty

I just use the 2" receiver hitch mounts back and front.

If you want mount 3 on the back one each side and the middle for pulling trailers

If you need the shackles to pivot up and down you can drill a hole 90 degrees to allow the shackle to pivot in that direction.
