Cracked Frame.

When I was up under my truck I noticed that my frame was almost cracked in half under the passenger side door. The frame was litterally 7/8 of the way separated. Me and my bud welded the crack then plated around it and welded again. I noticed a difference just pulling out of my driveway, my truck feels alot stiffer. I just thought it was kind of weird. I live in GA and have no "salt" rust anywhere on the truck. Anyway, has this happened to anyone else on here???

You should see my frame. Actually, you should see through my frame. The '83 is rusted really badly. It's sitting in the driveway now waiting for me to switch everything over to the new frame sitting in the garage.

If Bud ever gets around to finishing the prototype and retailing them. It seems that with all the other stuff he has to offer, the frames (which were originally the cornerstone of his business) have taken a back burner.

My interest is peaked! I new ladder frame would by alot better than the what I have on my '95. Nothing wrong (yet) with my current frame but, bigger is better and galvinized or painted would be so wicked.

Budbuilt frames were to be the schiznit, I only hope he actually finishes them. All sorts of options available: custom spring hanger locations and drops, integral body lifts, integral sliders, full skidplates, integral winch mounts, long travel shock brackets, drivetrain lifts, custom finishes including hot-dip galvanizing, etc.

When I read the first post - I was thinking the same thing!? Is he actually producing them now? They sure looked sweet-just like his skidplates.

The skidplates and his other stuff seem to be taking all his time. I don't think there's been any progress on the frame prototype in months.

You just have the Toyota factory rust package that came with all 80's Toyotas except those destined for the southwest U.S.

Seriously though, I feel your pain. The frame (and cab, and bed) on my 83 totally rotted out. I ended up swapping frames and sheet metal. It's a whole different truck now.

No, My truck or frame isn't rusted at all, it was just severely cracked. That's why I find it so weird. But it's fixed now and I swear that it feels stiffer just driving down the road. I probably cracked it on a rollover, or on one of those crazy "Snatch" sessions that us offroaders love--hate. I'm just glad that I noticed and fixed it ASAP.

Nah nobody jumped it. I've had the truck for 8 years now. I bought the truck from my stepmom's boss who bought it new. It was immaculate with 60,000 grocery getting miles on it. The first thing I did to the truck was replace the hubs cause they were locked up. He said the only time he had ever put it in 4WD was the week he bought it and he drove over a curb. I got a Virgin Yota! I'd hate for that guy to see it now.....
