02 SAS Frame Extension!?!

I am doing a SAS on my 02 tacoma. I know that earlier tacomas had the front of their frame extended a few inches farther than my 02. The front crossmember that I welded in butts up against the radiator... Because my frame doesn't stick out as much, should I extend it? I was wondering what other people have done... If I don't extend it, that will affect the placement of both the leaf springs and the axle in relation to the wheel wells won't it?

It also sucks because I have two bolts going through the crossmember for my bumper, so when I need to loosen the nut on the bolts, I have to unbolt the radiator and lift it up in order to access the nuts on the crossmember. AHHHH, why did toyota change the frame length?

the best place I know to get this kind of info is to search over at Pirate4x4... lots of D44 tacos over there.

hey man. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I posted at Pirate, and no one knew, they referred me to tacomaterritory's forum, but no one will respond. Everyone on pirate told me to go to yotatech or tacomaterritory! Anyway, thanks.

Usually when people on PBB tell you to come here, they are joking.

I think there are less than 3 solid axle Tacos who post here often and non of them are newer than 2000 IIRC.

I would keep the spring hanger as tight to the front of the truck as possible so you don't lose any more approach angle.

We did not extend the frame when we SAS'd Rob's rig. The axle lined up darned near exactly where they were in the stock configuration...

Two bolts through the cross member for you bumper?? What kind of bumper are you running? The only cross members I remember from Rob's SAS is the one for the IFS, and one for the transfer case... I don't understand how your bumper can bolt to either one

The only SAS that I saw had the same thing - crossmember just in front of the radiator. I don't know if the radiator moved closer to the engine in 2002, but I think you're Ok. Just go for it.
