Sunflower... the must do run

Nice to meet you as well. Always good to see more Toyota's on the trail.
Try using Photobucket to host and post pics:

It's free and easy to use.
I'd like to put together an overnight run sometime soon. I am trying to think about a meeting place with two optional routes. One harder than the other. That way, two groups could wheel "together".
Desoto Mine trail seems like it might work for such a trip. One group could head up the CK backroad, which is fairly entry level. The other could head up DeSoto... which is more advanced. Both trails get close to Crown King with lot's of camping opportunities.
Next day maybe run Smiley Rock all as one group.
Just some ideas. I'll build a separate thread for that run.... and here it is:

It's pretty much a year round trail though... just take heavy winter storms into consideration.

Elvota cleaned the Log Corral waterfall like it wasn't even there. Can't state how much I've learned watching the Schaeffer mobiles. Pretty stoked that I am starting to get the hang of all this.

Knowing there is so much more to try... AZ has to be the best.

I guess I do get a bit carried away when it opens up. It's fun to open it up every once in a while... plus that 3.0 just loves to go downhill.
I used to think that I pretty much screamed on those sections, until I tried to follow SOAZTim the other night out by 404.
Now that guy goes!!! Westy and I both looked at each other with shrugged shoulders when he took off. I thought he had gone in the other direction completely until I finally caught his dust cloud.

Hey Everybody, thanks for the great time! It was great to hang out and meet you all! I really appreciated all of your advice and help with spotting yesterday. There were definitely a couple of scary spots for me in my stock 4r and I am glad you were all there to help me get through them. I think the biggest lesson I came away with here is the importance of traction. The rear lockers had helped me "float" over obstacles in the past but I still had quite a hard time with all the loose rock on that uphill climb.
I don't think I would want to try this kind of run again without some armoring though. I'd like to keep my 4R pretty much stock for now ($$). Any thoughts about putting together some easier runs for us stock lightweights?
Also, I was trying to put up a couple of pix but can't seem to get them looking good after sizing it to something the system will accept. Ah well, I'll try again later.
Thanks again y'all!

Do you want those pictures that I have of your 4runner?

I wasn't going to bring that up but since it was I'll say something.
One thing that I've noticed on the runs that I've been on whether with utah-ttora/az-ttora (last month) or with this group. It seems like the guys that modified their trucks beyond stock seem to go a little faster. Which is fine and all (i'd probable do the same thing) but when you have a few stock vehicles we seem to get left behind a bit.
I've actaully lost a group or two a few times do to this but found them after a while. I like to try and keep someone ahead of me so I can see what lines they are taking. Just something to keep in mind for us stock guys.
That's my soapbox

It's good to keep the group together. I'll never blaze on a route that has directional options... but it's good to keep in mind the different levels of vehicle going along for the ride. That's why we always try to keep a rig with a CB in the front as well as the back.
Now when the CB for the guy in front can't transmit... what ya gonna do.

I don't want to hold you all back either so I think two routes would be really cool! I also understand that this run would probably have been ok for someone more skilled. I'm just not there yet, not to mention I really don't want to accidentally break my 4r ..

I know what you mean. The best time I had was towards the end when I was behind Mike (?) and his blue truck. I think I was just able to keep up with him because he has about the same clearance as me. I could see the lines he was picking and why.
That's why I like the alternate routes idea, maybe along with vehicles grouped with similar capability?? Hopefully one of the more experienced guys / gals would chaperone to help keep us out of trouble. I'm wondering if more people would be willing to come out and play!
btw, I would love to get those pix! I'll drop you my email. I've got some pix for you too!

Nice pics. This trail looks like a beautiful one, though hot.

Sorry, Steve I wasn't around much when you were driving yours or in a good position. I thought though that I had one of you going though that one spot that you helped me but apparently my camera didn't take it. Sorry.
So the only one that I got was at the beginning of the trail.
This is the other one I found. (So that makes two)

Steve's little red truck is proof of that.

looks like you guys had a great time, sorry couldn't make it, rear end is making some noises that I need to take care of first. But I do want to make a run soon. I need to get a break from the rat race.

Good points...I think it is always a good idea to keep the person behind you in your rear-view. Speaking for the guys I knew in the group, I think we all are really willing to help the newer folks through trails. We were all there, and (better yet) feel exactly the same way when we face an obstacle that is new to us.
Lets hit some more trails!

Same as you though, I always wait anytime there is a turn option. Don't ever want to loose someone or get myself lost!

No worries though... it's pretty much a standard run that gets done several times a year. I am sure you'll have other opportunities.
