Going to threadjack for a moment. But what benefit do you get from regearing in a sock vehicle? I thought that you normally regeared when you lift your truck and change tire sizes to regain some mpg and accleration?

Looks like I need to search though the hundred's of threads.

Good luck with the repair.

He's running 255 tires which are roughly 33" dia, as well as a mild lift listed in his sig.

T,
you know I have those tires. Remember Sedona. They are 33.3 inch tires so they are taller than 285/75/16's or over 2 inches taller than stock tires. The lift is mild, but I like the low COG.
Add in the 5 extra gallons of gas, 5 of water, gear, roof top tent, etc and the weight takes a lot of power.

Okay, so... I don't know how, but when torquing down the pinion nut it supposedly gave way...
Anyone have one. NO toyota dealers in town have one...

I honestly wonder if they know what they are doing? If the nut is screwed the crush sleeve is screwed too.

Do they even realize that?

What exactly failed...?

I know those can be hard to reuse because of the staking required. In fact, I think Toyota doesn't want them to be re-used.... but what do they know.

I may have some nuts on 3rds sitting around, if you need one.

Toyota is supposed to have one to them in the morning, but if my luck holds I may need one.
Thanks elvota.

I wonder if they didn't use a crush sleeve... but spacer instead, Still wouldn't explain the nut failure.

Hadn't realized initially that the gear shop was the one that messed up the nut. I thought you guys had some sort of issue in the garage putting the flange back on.

Racer offroad.
I'll wait until I inspect it all and see how it turns out. There have been some big plusses and some minuses to this experience.

Did you not go with ZUK on the rear because he doesn't do the IFS diffs? 4Wheelers's Supply is another pretty good place to get gears setup. Hopefully everything will turn out good for you on this.

Thanks. Yep, I went with Racer because I needed them both to be done at one place. Of course I ended up running all over town to get parts for them that they broke or didn't order etc. The "idea" was that I didn't want to run all over town in my girlfriends near broken car and I didn't want to tell Racer who was price matching all of PORC's great prices that they could sell me the parts at almost no mark-up and then only get the front.
Live and learn. I have the diffs in the back of my girls car now. Lets hope they work...
Sorry if I sound frustrated. Its tough to spend this kind of money and worry whether it will all break so I'm stressing pretty bad.

So I get to Zuk's and he kindly takes the time to do a little look at the diff for us.

Zuk painted the gears and we took a look at the gear pattern.
Are you ready for an interesting pattern...

Even I could tell that this pattern was a bit more than slim. Pretty much as bad as it can get for a place to grab.

Zuk mentioned that the shims used were way to small. doh!

More to come later.
