Sept. 24 GWNF Trail Ride

We're still trying to figure out which trails to run. We will be in the area west of Harrisonburg, off I-81. There will be a multi-club trail clean up on Sept. 24 as well. I think we're going to plain the run to avoid the trails being worked on.

The Sept 24 trail clean up by OCC, NOVA Jeepers and others will be
hitting Dry River, Flag Pole Knob, 2nd Mountain, and Dictum.

"The Capital Land Cruiser Club will join some other 4x4 clubs for a
Multi-Club Trail Clean-up organized by Off-Camber Crawlers. We'll be
heading down to the Harrisonburg area to hit Dry River, Flag Pole Knob, 2nd
Mountain, and Dictum, loading pick-ups and trailers with trash and
hauling it to the county dump."

Do we want to hit those trails if they're being worked on? I'd feel
alittle strange driving by while others are working on a trail. Maybe
it's me, but we might get some glares. We can make it over to Reddish
Knob via the route Bob led last year as written up here and avoid the
clean-up area: Click here.

Check out the trip report and the link to the photo album at the bottom of the link. If we (CORE4x4) takes this route, it is stock friendly. I'll update this post when I get more info.

Post here if you intend to go and I'll add you to the list.

So far:

Meeting at Wendy's in Manassas

Ian (aka Roadrunner)
JimmyK

Meeting us at Sheetz in Harrisonburg

Eric (aka FilthyRich)
Matt (aka Localmotion)
rwmorrisonjr

Please let me know if I've missed anyone.

I agree about driving by while others are cleaning. I would feel like a shmuck. i am down for the the 24th. I believe echamberclain(sp) is in VA for some Navy training and will be joining us.

Will they be cleaning up all day? We can do some to other trails and back track if there is time.

I think there are 4 or more clubs working on the trails. I'm not sure how long they will be working on the trails. I'll check some of those club's websites to see if there is any other info.

According to Maps.yahoo.com, it's about 223 miles (about 4+ hours).

One of the guys in CORE4x4 is a diehard Bronco fan. You'll be in good company.

I should know by mid week what times we will be meeting in Centerville/Manassas (off I-66)(usually around 8:00 am) and then a second meeting point at Sheetz in Harrisonburg (off I-81) on Rt. 33 (maybe around 10:00 am).

This will be a stock friendly run.

Since this is a CORE4x4 run, with VA4Roc members (non-CORE4x4 members), please print out and complete either the "Trip Waiver" or "Release and Waiver of Liability" form found here:
http://www.core4x4.org/forms.shtml

If you forget, I'll have extra copies with me.

who is planning on camping???
I might have to make this a day trip. I have a pregnant wife and three dogs. That plus the GWNF seems like it will be a little busy this weekend.

This will be a day run for me. My mother-in-law will be babysitting my 16 month old daughter during the day. Having a pregnant wife and then a newborn baby definately cut into my trail runs. However I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. When my daughter gets alittle older, I'll bring her on day runs.

This'll be a day trip for me as well if I can make it back from Fayetteville, NC, in time on Friday. Also getting the tranny worked on (soft part rebuild & linkage adjustment) and that'll be ready by Thrusday morning.

Def a day trip on my calendar as well. Im pretty excited this should be great. Eric (FlithyR) you seem like the pro where should we meet and what time? What all should we be bring and what kinds of trails are these? what's the "minimum" so to speak should we have on our trucks?

Sliders? bumpers? 2 inch lifts? 33s? should we remove our stock running boards if we still have ours on? Yes I am guilty of that...

most of the trails at GWNF are stocker friendly. I do not know which trails we'll be running just yet. I would definately take off the running boards, or nature might take care of that for you. 33s are not necessary, I did some trails (flagpole) with stock suspension and with my running boards. As for hat you should bring, Food, drinks(non-alcoholic) tow rope( if you dont have one, i have one), Reciever shackle(i have one that can be used if you get stuck) Like i said, it all depends on what trails they run

I was going to remove my sliders and tow hith from the back and throw my spare on top to help the rear angles a bit. Do you think I should leave my rear hitch on then for the shackle? I have the hooks on the front of the truck would those be enough?

And that tow rope might be helpful, thanks!

Since there's a list started, we should send a PM to those going with the CB channel we'll be monitoring and our cell phone numbers in case there's a last minute cancellation.

I do have the Motorla 2-way radios, but they are only the 2milers. Good on the trail.
