Question winch & frame end caps

I installed a TJM-15, but I wasn't very impressed with the mounts. It looks like you'd be able to pull them right off if not bend them on an angle pull. When I added my 1 1/2" BL, I cut the TJM brackets and relocated them an 1" higher. Afterwards I added in a bunch of gussets and a few shackle points, now I'm sure the bumper will be able to handle much harder pulls.

As for cutting the end caps off the frame and welding in new mounts, not really needed, just reweld the stock mount and add a few gussets to brace the flanges better and it'll be just fine. That way if you ever decide to sell your rig and you want to reinstall your stock bumper you can.

Rob (WATRD) pioneered it but I don't have a link. Try a search on that "ARB read this" thread, I think it is on there. I got some pics of what I did on my site on the write-ups page as well.

If you go with the TJM you won't need to cut off the end plates. The brackets match up to existing plates.

As for Bruce's comment, he might be right, but I have yet to see any flex when winching and as you know you and I wheel the same areas.

If you want to see my set-up in person, give me a hollar and you can come by the house.
